We make a drain for the washing machine into the sewer: 2 ways

Household appliances are bought and installed, the only thing left is to connect the drain system. If you intend to solve this issue without the help of a master, then it does not hurt to know how to properly organize the drain for the washing machine into the sewer. There are several ways, so let’s talk about each of them in detail.

Connecting to the sewer: methods and options

As soon as the appliances are in the house, the buyer chooses a suitable place to install them. This is where washing machines are most often placed:

  • In the bathroom. Standard option, especially if there is enough space in the room.
  • In the kitchen. Greatly simplifies the connection due to the proximity to the sink.
  • In the hall. A rare but possible case if there is no space in other rooms.

In addition to free space, the choice of connection location is influenced by such factors:

  • Washer and drain location. The fact is that the pump that pumps out the used liquid has its own reserve. And if the distance is too large, then the node simply will not cope with the task or will wear out quickly.
  • pipe material in the room. This is if a tie-in is carried out and a tee is connected.
  • Length and diameter of hoses, connections.

How to remove the drain under the washing machine? There are three main ways. Each of them has advantages and disadvantages. You should choose what suits your space and convenience.

The options are:

  1. Descent of the waste liquid into the plumbing. Each SMA model comes with a plastic hook. A hose is installed in it and attached to the edge of the bathroom, sink or toilet. Other than being easy to reproduce, the sink option no longer has any merit. During washing, you will not be able to use the plumbing, and after draining, dirt and an unpleasant smell will remain.
  2. Through siphon. If a siphon with several outlets is installed under the sink, then just connect a hose to one of them. But there are pitfalls here too. How to protect the car from the smell from the sewerage and the intake of dirty water? Purchase a siphon with both a branch and a check valve.
  3. Directly into the sewer pipe. To do this, you will have to install an adapter in the pipe. Well, if the pipes are plastic, and if they are cast iron, you will have to work hard or replace this section.

Do not forget about how to properly organize the drain. This refers to the hose placement distance. If the connection is too low, the waste liquid will flow into the tank of the machine. How to prevent the problem, we will describe below.

How to connect the drain from the washing machine?

To prepare for work, you need to prepare consumables. First, determine the distance from the washer to the connection point. Is the standard hose length enough? If not, then you will have to increase the length. Here’s what’s needed:

  • cuff;
  • non-return valve (for inserting into a siphon);
  • plug;
  • clamp;
  • tee;
  • fitting;
  • new siphon;
  • tools (wrenches);
  • Bulgarian.

So, everything is ready. It remains to complete the installation and enjoy the smooth operation of the washer.

How to install through a siphon?

If the appliances are located in the kitchen, then there is nothing better than connecting it through a siphon. The right device will provide a drain not only for the washer, but also for other types of equipment. Therefore, instead of a conventional siphon, install a combined type. It is distinguished by the presence of several bends that can be used for sinks, dishwasher and washers.

For those who appreciate the aesthetics of the room, an internal siphon is suitable. It is also designed for multiple connections, but is built inside the wall. A plastic door is provided for easy access and cleaning of the device.

Do not forget to equip the siphon with a check valve. It will protect the car from the penetration of foreign odors.

The device should be located under the sink at a level of 40 cm from the floor. Next, do this:

  • Fasten the drain hose to the washer body with a plastic clamp at a level of 70 cm from the floor.
  • Connect the adapter to the outlet of the siphon.
  • Now bring the other end of the hose to the adapter and fasten the connection with a clamp.

The connection diagram is shown in the photo.

Great, now you can run a test program to make sure the joints are tight.

How to connect to the sewer?

This method is more difficult than the previous one. Good for those who have a pipe running right behind the washing machine. How the connection should be made:

  • Close the water inlet valve.
  • Using a grinder, cut off part of the pipe to cut a tee into it.
  • Three outputs will provide connection of several objects at once.
  • Install a seal in one of the branches.
  • It remains to connect the hose to the tee.

At the same time, the height of the drain must be at least 60 cm so that unpleasant odors do not enter the tank. The video will help you understand the stages and complexities of the work:

This completes the installation. Run a short cycle without laundry to ensure all connections are secure. Remember, to avoid having to clean the sewer and hose, carefully check things before loading, removing items in pockets.
