We collect a cosmetic bag on a plane: 6 necessary tools

One of the most popular queries in search engines begins with the words “is it possible to take in hand luggage”, so today the conversation is about what cosmetics to take on board the plane. As a bonus, we’ll give you some tips on skin care before and after your flight.

What cosmetics can not be taken on a plane

Carry-on baggage rules differ depending on the airline: some will allow you to carry tweezers and nail scissors, others will take away a harmless bottle of sanitizer liquid.

You can check this point on the website of a particular airline. We will talk about the rules that apply to almost all air carriers. So, what is included in the list of beauty products that are usually prohibited on board?

  • Aerosols: deodorant, hairspray, dry shampoo, and sometimes thermal water.

  • Sharp objects: tweezers, manicure scissors.

  • Containers with liquids larger than 100 ml: if there are three drops at the bottom in a shampoo bottle with a capacity of 200 ml of the shampoo itself, it will still be taken away during pre-flight control.

The last rule is rarely followed, but it sounds like this: all containers must be stored in one transparent plastic package. Their total capacity should not exceed one liter. That is, you can take 10 vials of 100 ml or 20 vials of 50 and so on.

All liquids (alcohol, perfume, cosmetics) larger than 100 ml that you have purchased from the duty free shop (Duty Free) must remain in a sealed bag until boarding the aircraft.

It’s good to know that many brands offer thumbnails of their best-selling products to customers. For example, masks loved by many are quite heavy and take up a lot of space in a cosmetic bag. It’s inconvenient to take a full-size product with you or transfer part of it into a travel-format jar (which you still have to buy), but putting a mini-version in your suitcase is a great solution.

How to take care of your skin before flying

These tips will help you prepare your skin for flight.

Don’t drink a lot of water

Many people know from experience that on an airplane their legs swell, and their face looks swollen. This happens due to forced immobility and pressure changes. The more water you drink, the more pronounced the swelling will be.

Not drinking at all is another extreme, it is important to know the measure in everything. Leaning on alcohol on the eve of the flight is completely contraindicated, it retains water in the body, thereby contributing to the formation of edema.

Don’t forget to moisturize your skin

The air humidity in the aircraft cabin is far from the 40–60% required by the skin. To be precise, it is about 20%, which is catastrophically low. Therefore, before leaving for the airport, apply moisturizing serum and cream on your face.

On the day of departure, the optimal solution for the skin is a moisturizing mask.

Refrain from peeling

A day or two before the trip, we advise you to abandon peelings and other traumatic procedures. Low humidity on board an aircraft, coupled with a damaged hydrolipidic mantle of the skin, can provoke a feeling of tightness and discomfort.

Track your nutrition

Salty and spicy foods retain water in the body (like alcohol), so before departure and during a long flight, it is better to avoid them. But fruits, vegetables and dairy products do not have such an effect and are suitable for a light snack shortly before departure.

Gather your makeup bag

The cosmetic bag that you take with you on board should contain:

  • wet wipes;

  • hand cream;

  • lip balm;

  • a small bottle of moisturizing facial toner and a cotton pad;

  • nutritious cream.

Don’t forget the mini comb, toothbrush and toothpaste too.

During the flight

The farthest direct flight lasts 17 hours. And on average, Russians choose flights that take four to five hours. If you are not flying across the ocean, you will not need any special procedures.

The skin will be grateful to you if you additionally moisturize it during the flight by pre-cleaning it with a make-up remover wipe. In addition, hand cream and lip balm are obligatory – in a sweaty case, delicate thin skin can dry to the state of parchment by the end of the flight.

And now let’s talk about the use of thermal water on board the aircraft. Contrary to popular belief, not all thermal water is useful to spray on the face during the flight. Salt in highly mineralized water can dry out the skin instead of moisturizing it. It is recommended to use low-mineralized water.

Do not leave thermal water to dry on your face. Blot the skin with a tissue immediately after spraying the product, otherwise the result will be the opposite of expected.

Then the plane

After the flight, the skin must first of all normalize the hydrobalance. Intensively moisturizing masks will cope with this task. Before this, you can do a light peeling – for example, an exfoliating mask with fruit acids. So you will quickly return to the skin of the face a healthy color and radiance.

Be prepared for the fact that the skin can adapt to new conditions for some time and react to changes in climate, water and food with rashes. They are easy to neutralize with a spot antibacterial agent.
