– We are currently at the peak of the epidemic; the next two or three days are the climax – said the head of the Military Institute of Medicine, prof. Grzegorz Gielerak. He estimated that a week or two after Christmas, the number of infected should drop.
The director of the Military Institute of Medicine assessed in TVP INFO that we are currently at the peak of the epidemic in terms of the number of cases.
– The next two or three days – this is the climax. Of course, we have Christmas afterwards. This is the moment that will have consequences. We all hope that the rationality and pragmatics of everyone’s behavior, and therefore organically the risk of transmitting infection to other people, and that it can be done in one way – limiting contacts, will prevail and the holiday time will not be the reason for another peak of infections – said Prof. div. gen. Grzegorz Gielerak.
He estimated that a week, two weeks after Christmas, the number of infected should drop significantly.
When asked about the greatest challenges for the health service, the head of the Military Institute of Medicine mentioned: testing, identifying and isolating infected people, optimal medical care and reducing mortality.
COVID-19: Most patients get sick at home
The professor emphasized that patients who come to the hospital with COVID-19 too late are a big problem. He indicated that these decisions are often made by the patients themselves, who prefer to store the disease at home for various reasons.

– But there is also an issue that patients themselves pay attention to – limited access to the health care system. Especially this part of the POZ. Patients emphasize that they are often unable to make a call or get advice, he noted.
The director of the Military Institute of Medicine pointed out that 90 percent. patients undergo the disease at home and only 10 percent. requires hospitalization.
– After all, these 90 percent. requires reliable medical care and making decisions about hospitalization at the optimal moment, which guarantees us, in the hospitals themselves, the use of effective methods, which have one essential condition – the patient must hit the so-called therapeutic window, which closes on day 7-9 from the onset of the onset of disease symptoms – explained prof. Gielerak.
He added that after that time “therapeutic possibilities drop dramatically and only symptomatic treatment remains”, which – as he said – carries the risk of complications and even deaths.
