Watering violets: how to water violets correctly
Watering violets requires compliance with a number of rules, ranging from the exact calculation of the amount of liquid and ending with its correct supply. This charming but capricious indoor flower needs special care, violation of which can lead to the death of the plant.
How to properly water violets
These indoor flowers need to be watered at regular intervals, such as every 3-4 days. In winter, a dormant period sets in, and therefore it is important to reduce the amount of liquid – small portions of water once a week are enough. On hot summer days, on the other hand, the frequency of watering can be increased.
How to water violets? There are several ways to suit this whimsical plant. Namely:
- bottom watering – pour water into the container located under the pot. You can use a deep bowl for this purpose, put a pot in it and add liquid to its very edges – you need to get the plant no earlier than 6-8 hours, when the ground becomes wet. Repeat the procedure once a week;
- wick watering – you need to put the plant on a jar or glass of water. Dip a strip of fabric or cord into it, the other end of which is located in a pot with a violet. This method is only suitable for small, young indoor flowers;
- under the lower leaves – you need a watering can with a thin long nose. You need to pour the liquid in a thin stream, trying not to get on the leaves, flowers, and even more so the middle of the plant – otherwise the young leaves will be covered with whitish stains.
It is important not to overdo it with watering – this will quickly lead to rotting of the roots and leaves. Therefore, you need to repeat the procedure only when the earthen lump is completely dry, but at the same time it has not yet become hard and covered with cracks.
The fact that the plant wants to drink is easy to recognize by its appearance: if the lower leaves have dropped, then a new portion of water is needed.
What water is needed for watering violets
It is important not only to observe the regularity of watering, but to use only that liquid that will not harm the plant. That is why you need to pay special attention to water quality, taking into account the following features:
- only settled liquid at room temperature should be used, which was poured no earlier than 3-4 days before watering and was stored in an open container;
- filtered water is also suitable for irrigation, provided that it does not contain chlorine or harmful components;
- melt or rainwater is not recommended for this capricious plant.
How to properly water violets during flowering? During this period, it is worth adding to the water a small amount of fertilizers intended for flowering plants. The liquid volumes can be increased slightly.
The violet itself signals to the owner that it is time for watering – if there is a lack of moisture, its leaves will immediately lose their beauty and elasticity. It is important to observe the regularity of the procedures, adding liquid in small portions at regular intervals.
