When choosing a boiler, we want to know not only the volume of the tank and performance, but also the time it takes to heat water in the water heater. This affects the consumption of electricity, the duration of waiting for a comfortable bathing temperature. How to correctly calculate this indicator, on what it depends, we will tell in the publication.
How hot is the water in the boiler?
First of all, it is worth deciding on the type of unit. The accumulative heater has the built-in tank of various volumes. Water accumulates inside the container, and the installed heating element heats it up to the indicators that you set on the thermostat. Thermal insulation of the walls retains heat, which saves energy. As soon as the temperature begins to decrease, the temperature sensor reacts and the heating element turns on again.
In flow boilers, the way of working is somewhat different. They do not have a storage tank, so the flow passes through the heating element, heats up and immediately flows out of the tap.
On what factors does the heating rate depend?
- literage of grandmothers;
- fluid temperature at the inlet;
- set values on the regulator;
- heating element power.
What should be the temperature? Optimal 60-65 degrees. At 80–85 ° C, there is a possibility of burns. Therefore, the hot liquid is pre-mixed with the cold one. Moreover, the risk of scale deposits increases. Potassium and magnesium salts are actively deposited on the surfaces of equipment, and especially on heating elements. As a result, the part overheats and fails.
When the indicators are set below 60 degrees, there is a risk of bacteria formation, which leads to an unpleasant odor in the water. Fixing the problem is not so easy, you will have to completely drain the liquid, dismantle and wash the tank from the inside.
Therefore, we take the optimal indicators of 65 ° C. When mixed, you will get water at 40 ° C and you can fill the bathroom. In this case, the device will continue to heat the contents.
Keep in mind that heating is faster in summer than in winter. After all, then the input temperature is 15 degrees, and in cold weather – 5 degrees.
How long does it take for the electric heater to reach the panel values? Let’s compare the power of the heating element and displacement. Standard power is 1,5–2,5 kW. Therefore, a container with a volume of 10–15 liters will warm up in half an hour, and a volume of 200 liters in 5–8 hours.
For example, let’s take the Ariston and Termex models. Boiler capacity from 80 to 100 liters. How long the water will warm up to 55 degrees is indicated in the table.
Heating element power | “Ariston” | “Termex”
80 l. | 100 l. | 200 l. | 80 l. | 100 l. | 200 l.
1500 W | 180 | 280 | 360 | 170 | 210 | 320 |
2500 W | 110 | 230 | 320 | 130 | 160 | 290 |
Calculation in domestic conditions is carried out according to the following formula:The larger the area of the heating element and the smaller the capacity of the tank, the faster its contents will warm up.
T = 0,00117
V is the capacity of the container;
Т2 — optimum temperature set by the user;
T1 – values of water at the inlet;
W is the power of the heating element.
The advantages of a storage boiler are that you can use hot liquid at any time, even when the electricity is turned off. The device is able to provide several points of intake: a shower, a sink in the kitchen.
Calculations for the protochnik are carried out approximately according to the same formula:
V = 14,3
The values are the same as in the first case, only V stands for the flow rate in l/min.
The advantages of the protochnik are energy savings. The heating element only turns on when you open the mixer. This makes it possible to quickly and in any quantity get a hot stream. The downside is that the heating temperature usually does not exceed 40-50 degrees. The device can provide only one water intake point.
The picture below shows the heating time to 75 °C in the storage tank:

Knowing the heating time in the boiler is really important when buying. Therefore, before you go to the store, do the calculations at home. This way you will know which appliances suit your home.
