Water heater volume: calculation, choice for the home

All modern houses are connected to the central water supply. But not all residents are satisfied with the quality of service provided by public utilities, so they install boilers in private houses and apartments. In order not to make a mistake with the choice of equipment, you need to correctly calculate the volume of the water heater. We will share with you calculation formulas and rules that will help you choose a device for the whole family.

How to choose the volume of the boiler

Before you go to the store for appliances, decide on the amount of water consumed. Also an important criterion is the heating rate and the flow rate of the coolant.

What to consider when buying:

  • The number of people who will use the device.
  • The number of sampling points.
  • Using the bath or shower to wash.

People’s habits also affect the amount of fluid they drink. What time does each family member take a shower? If it is day and evening, then the number of liters will be reduced, because during this period of time the boiler will have time to heat the next portion of water. A large supply of a storage tank will not be superfluous, especially for a private house.

How many liters does a standard appliance hold? From 30 to 150. A 30-50 liter water tank is enough to serve one intake point. For example, you can place appliances near the sink. There are also larger devices for 500 liters. These are more commonly used in industry.

Water heaters of indirect heating are connected to the heating system, their capacity is also large. They provide hot water not only for the sink and shower, but also for radiators.

Conventionally, for two or three people in a family, 80-100 liters are enough. However, in order to accurately select the technique, you need to carry out the calculation.

How to calculate tank capacity

For a family of 4, you can calculate the capacity using the following formula:

R h (t° – t1) / (t2 – t1)

R – this is the amount of fluid you need for daily use. To calculate this indicator, consider what water is spent on. For example: to take a shower you need 5 liters. You take it within 10 minutes. So: 5 x 10 x 4 (number of people) = 200.

t ° outlet water temperature. For normal use without mixing, 38 degrees is sufficient.

t1  inlet temperature; in summer it can reach 16°С, in winter 9°С.

t2 — heating temperature; can reach 85-90 degrees.

It remains to substitute specific numbers and calculate the size and capacity of the tank. Products over 150 liters are not hung on the wall, but are installed on the floor. You will need enough space to accommodate them.

No need to think that you will have a clean hot water consumption. If you prefer to take a bath, then the hot stream will be diluted with cold to achieve a comfortable temperature.

Experts recommend setting the heating to no more than 55 degrees. This will avoid the formation of scale and its deposition on the parts of the boiler.

The selection of an instantaneous water heater is carried out in the same way. However, the liquid preparation time is calculated using a different formula:

Pm u1,163d Q / ((Ttv-Txv) * XNUMX)

R – the amount of liquid consumed.

Q — power of the device, which is indicated in the documentation.

Ttv and Thv — temperature of warm and cold water.

It is with such calculations that the choice of a heater that is optimal for your family begins. In the store you can already evaluate the design of equipment, workmanship. Heating power, safety, degree of protection against corrosion also matter. Watching the video will help you decide:
