Water callus: what to do with it and how to quickly heal

Spoiler: it is not always recommended to open the corn yourself.

You bought a new pair of perfect boats and, before you had time to carry them, put them on for a walk around the city. The result of such a hasty decision is water blisters on the heels, which not only look terrible, but also hurt. Wday figured out what to do in this situation and how to quickly heal calluses.

A blister on the skin in which a clear liquid has accumulated is a callus. The upper layer of the skin at the place of friction peels off, and intercellular fluid accumulates under it. At the initial stage, the bubble does not inflate; it appears only with continued exposure to friction.

As a rule, calluses form in people with sensitive skin. Touching the surface of the bladder is painful. In case of accidental or deliberate breakthrough of the skin on the corns, fluid flows out of it. A wound is formed into which infection can easily penetrate. And this is very dangerous.

Water callus: what to do when it appears

It is believed that the corn cannot be opened on its own.

  1. For small corn, cover it with a bactericidal plaster. Place some wound-healing ointment under his gauze pad.

  2. If the corn is of impressive size, then it is better to consult a surgeon. He will open the bladder in compliance with the conditions of sterility, treat the wound and give recommendations for further actions.

What to do in case of accidental puncture of the skin on the surface of the callus:

  • do not remove the damaged surface if it has not come off by half or more;

  • treat the puncture site with hydrogen peroxide and anoint with brilliant green;

  • press the corn with a piece of bandage to drain the liquid;

  • apply on the surface of the skin any ointment that contains an antibiotic, cover it with a bactericidal plaster or make a bandage from a bandage;

  • change the bandage twice a day and take it off at night.

If you are unsure whether your body can tolerate the antibiotic in the ointment, talk to your doctor. Many people are allergic to any medications. Therefore, do not take unnecessary risks.

If you accidentally open a callus, treat the wound hydrogen peroxide, apply antibacterial ointment and cover with a gauze pad.

In case of fever, weakness or other discomfort, consult a doctor immediately! This must also be done if suppuration appears on the wound, and around it there is a red swelling.

Our expert, an orthopedic traumatologist, surgeon Frau Klinik, Vladimir Tsukanov, told about what to do if a blister appears.

Do not self-medicate, take care of yourself! And to exclude the formation of blisters, work with gloves, do not wear new shoes on long walks. Be healthy!

– The greatest danger of water corns is the possibility of its infection. Callus is a detachment of the surface layer of the epidermis, in which the bladder fills with lymphatic fluid. The procedure for such a callus is very simple.

  1. It is necessary to first treat the skin with an antiseptic solution.

  2. Make two punctures of the surface layer of this bubble with a thin needle.

  3. Squeeze out the liquid.

  4. Treat again with an antiseptic.

  5. Apply a tight bandage to prevent this cavity from filling up again.

As a rule, after one or two days this process ends, the surface layer of the skin gradually dies off, and healthy pink skin forms in its place.
