A wasp sting is very painful. However, for most people it is only associated with intense pain and discomfort. Usually, a wasp sting does not have any serious consequences for our health. However, for some people, a wasp sting can be fatal. So let’s know the rules for providing first aid in the event of a sting.
The sting of a wasp causes sudden and severe pain. There is also swelling shortly after the sting. All because of wasp venom, which is very dangerous for allergic people. Stings around the throat and mouth are extremely dangerous, which can even lead to death.
Wasp sting – symptoms
A wasp sting is hard to overlook, because wasp venom causes a number of unpleasant symptoms, including extreme and sudden pain. Symptoms of a sting are:
- sudden, severe pain;
- burning sensation and inflammation at the site of the sting;
- swelling;
- no sting, suggesting it was not a bee.
Even a small dose of wasp venom it can already cause great pain. The situation is different for people who are allergic. If we are allergic to venom, even a small amount of it can cause:
- rash;

Wasp sting – first aid
Usually, a wasp sting does not require any special treatment. The area after a wasp sting should be washed with e.g. soap and water. It is worth applying a vinegar or lemon compress, as well as a cooling compress. You can put on an antiseptic cream or give you anti-inflammatory drugs if there is swelling. We recommend, for example, BIO soothing propolis oil for stings and burns Propolia BeeYes.
However, if the person stayed repeatedly or heavily craved by wasps, is allergic to venom or the wasp has stung in the area of the throat or mouth, specialist assistance is required. In this case, you should immediately call an ambulance or go to the nearest hospital.
A wasp sting can lead to anaphylactic shock in an allergic person. As a result, even death may occur. It is then necessary to administer appropriate medications, and sometimes even hospitalization.
Wasp sting – prevention
If we want to prevent a wasp sting or are allergic and are concerned about the consequences of a wasp sting, there are some rules to keep in mind:
- avoid perfumes, cosmetics and various preparations with strong fragrances;
- choose natural and less flashy colors for clothes;
- avoid places full of flowers and flowering plants and fruit trees (wasps often fly to rotten fruit);
- do not walk barefoot on the grass;
- store food in airtight containers;
- do not eat sweet products in the open air (fruit, honey, etc.);
- stay calm if a wasp appears;
- if a sting occurs or the wasp stung another person, walk away for min. 50 meters, because the wasp can attack a second time.
It’s also worth remembering that the wasp will only attack when it feels threatened.
