Washing: what did you do wrong

Even something as simple as washing your face can damage your skin. To prevent this from happening, we will discuss typical mistakes and tell you how to avoid them.

Mistake 1: wash your face with an ice cube

Wipe the skin with an ice cube after washing is not forbidden. But to use it instead of morning washing is categorically contraindicated. The fact is that for the skin it is a shock therapy that provokes microspasm of blood vessels with their subsequent expansion.

An ice cube is not the best idea for a daily face wash.

On the one hand, as a result of this procedure, blood circulation improves, a blush and a feeling of freshness appear. On the other hand, if your skin is prone to rosacea, the walls of blood vessels may not withstand such an onslaught.

The conclusion is simple: before using ice cubes in skin care, check the condition of the vessels.

Mistake 2: use soap

No one argues: soap has outstanding cleansing abilities. And this potential can be used without harming the skin when it comes to washing hands or feet. But not every soap is suitable for the face.

After all, what is soap? These are salts of fatty acids, and are also very alkaline. Lather raises the pH level of the skin and needs at least a couple of hours to recover. Often after washing with soap, the skin becomes dry, there is a feeling of tightness, peeling may begin.

For oily skin, choose a cleansing gel, and for sensitive skin, choose foams and products with a creamy texture.

Mistake 3: wash your face once a day

A common misconception is that it is enough to clean the skin once a day. Especially among those who do not use decorative cosmetics: why evening washing if makeup removal is not needed? And among the girls who regularly do makeup, there are those who wash their faces only in the evening: everyone knows that going to bed without removing traces of foundation, eye shadow and lipstick is a gross violation of skin care rules.

Both of them are wrong. Under all circumstances, the skin should be cleansed twice a day.

in the evening it is necessary to remove particles of dust and dirt from the face that have managed to settle on the surface of the skin during the day.

In the morning – clean it from excess sebum, dead cells and, again, dust particles. Do not forget: at night the skin is restored and actively removes toxins.

Mistake 4: washing your face more than twice a day

If at every opportunity you rinse your face (and not only with water, but also with the use of foam or gel), you are doing your skin more harm than good. Washing more than twice a day is not worth it: frequent contact with water, and even with the use of special equipment, breaks the protective barrier, causing dry skin and even dehydration. For optimal care, two times are enough – in the morning and in the evening. At the same time, evening cleansing should also include make-up removal.

Mistake 5: wash off makeup with face wash

Many gels and foams for washing are good at removing makeup, sometimes even waterproof. But this does not mean that make-up remover milk, micellar water or biphasic products should be ignored. After all, the main principle of cleansing is delicacy, otherwise it is easy to damage the protective barrier of the skin and dry it out. Do not rub the skin with your hands with the gel, trying to rid it of the remnants of decorative cosmetics. It’s best to do it in two steps:

  1. apply micellar water or milk on dry skin, spread over the face with light massaging movements;

  2. when the product dissolves the makeup, proceed to washing with a gel to wash off the remaining impurities.

Mistake 6: washing your face with hot water

Hot water is not the skin’s best friend.

Many argue like this: the hotter the water, the better the pores will open and the cleaner the skin will become after washing. But the truth is that extreme temperatures damage the skin’s protective lipid barrier, increasing the risk of irritation, dryness, and flaking.

The right solution is to wash your face with lukewarm water and finish the procedure with cool water.

Mistake 7: Scrub daily

If you think that the quality of the skin will improve from the daily use of a facial scrub or peeling, then you are greatly mistaken – especially if you use aggressive products. Constant “scraping” leads to a weakening of the protective properties and, as a result, to increased vulnerability of the skin. Yes, dermatologists insist on regular exfoliation, but no more than 1-2 times a week, depending on the type and condition of the skin.

Mistake 8: wash your face with anything

Stop choosing cleansers based on the principle “a friend advised” or “I saw it in an advertisement.” Nowadays, it is not difficult to find cosmetics that are designed with skin type in mind and include ingredients to solve certain problems. For example, such as dryness, peeling, enlarged pores, oily sheen.

It is clear that a gel with the function of controlling the production of sebum is useless for dry skin. And owners of oily skin do not need a cleansing cream with oils.

When choosing any cosmetics, including for cleansing, be guided by your skin type and its condition.
