Washing of pillows in the washing machine. Video
The word “pillow” alone brings to mind the comfort, convenience and coziness. Different in shape, content, size, all of them are designed to provide only pleasant sensations. But from time to time your turn comes to serve this queen of the kingdom of Morpheus, and you go to wash her.
Washing down and feather pillows correctly
Washing down and feather pillows in the washing machine is always a risk. Often naperniki do not withstand the load and in the process of washing are torn in the weakest places. It is no longer possible to fix such a pillow. If down and feathers get into the drum, then the machine may become unusable. The least that can happen is the clogging of the drain filters. In worst cases, overvoltage can burn the wiring or motor of the machine.
If you are willing to take risks, there is some caution to take. Place your pillow in a pillowcase or laundry bag. In the event of a rupture of the pillowcase, the filler will remain inside. Choose the gentlest wash cycle. This can be a mode for wool or baby clothes. The number of revolutions when pressing the pillow should not exceed 500–600. After washing, straighten the pillow and dry it in a well-ventilated area.
Pillows filled with wool and bamboo
Wash natural wool and bamboo pillows on a delicate cycle. The water temperature should not exceed 30 degrees. It is advisable to use a detergent for natural wool or cashmere. To prevent the filler from clumping when drying products, turn on an additional rinse. Place some tennis balls in the drum along with the product. When washed, they will fluff up the pillow evenly, helping the filler to clean.
If you only want to clean the filler, carefully rip open the pillowcase, transfer the filler to a double gauze bag, sew it tightly, and wash at the same rate as the pillow.
Naturally filled pillows are recommended not only to be washed, but also disinfected from time to time. Take them to a special dry cleaner once a year to get rid of ticks and their waste products.
Washing synthetic pillows
Synthetic material is often used as filler for pillows. Pillows are stuffed with padding polyester filler, holofiber, silicone, camphor, fiberlon or non-woven fabric. All products with these fillers are easy to wash in the washing machine, dry quickly and retain their shape well after washing.
Soak the pillow with the detergent for 30 minutes before the main wash. Wash at 40 degrees with maximum spin speed. After washing, beat the pillow well, smoothing out the resulting irregularities, and lay to dry.
To dry the washed pillow faster, do not hang it up, but lay it on top of the clothesline
Which pillows cannot be machine washed
Do not machine wash pillows made of cotton or wadding, orthopedic products with anti-stress buckwheat husk fillers, pillows with memory effect. Before using such a pillow, sew an additional clasp pillow for it. Only wash it if necessary.
