The third edition of the contest S.Pellegrino Young Chef, which recognizes the new talents of the kitchen from all over the planet is already underway. Since last February, the call is open for all those who wish to present themselves.
The main novelty of this new edition will be the duration of 18 months, which will start in 2017 with the preliminary selection and the local competitions, but will take us throughout its gastronomic journey until June 2018, when it will be held. the grand final of the contest, this year in the city of Milan, and where the seven wise men will deliberate to find out who will win the award.
A new ingredient is therefore time, which will mean for the participants, more ability to work the dishes and more training for them from the chefs to improve their star dishes.
Another important novelty is the expansion of the scope of the contest, developing a new area, those of Central America-Caribbean, achieving a new region for competition, reaching 21 areas throughout the world.
The administrative and culinary phases of the contest
The S.Pellegrino Young Chef separates into four different moments, which we detail below:
- The Registry of candidatures. Now open for the period from February 2017 to April 2017, young aspiring chefs who wish to submit their application and their star dish on the contest website. It is essential to have less than 30 years and at least one year of experience working in the kitchen of a restaurant as a chef.
- The selected candidates are assigned to each of the 21 regions that make up the contest in its first phase, and will represent them to reach the semifinals of each region, under the analysis and supervision of the Alma Italian cooking training center.
- The local competitions that will begin in June of this year until December, will give those semifinalists who will have competed and shown star dishes in front of a regional jury made up of prestigious local chefs from each of the geographical constituencies.
- At the end of December this year, the final list of 21 Young Chefs from around the world who will compete in the Milan World Final in June 2018 will be released.
Each finalist will be assigned a “chef mentor “ (a member of your regional jury), who will advise and support you in your preparation for the final.
The contest yields impressive figures, with only two editions held, more than 3.000 applicants have already passed through each of the calls, and close to a hundred Top chefs they have participated as juries in local competitions.
