The study, organized by representatives of the University Hospital of Geneva, involved 69 people with a sedentary lifestyle. They did not exercise more than two hours a week. Over the course of three months, they were asked to add stair climbing to their daily physical activity, each climbing 23 floors on average.
After this period, it turned out that the participants in the study returned to normal blood pressure, decreased cholesterol levels and improved lung function. In addition, their body weight decreased (moreover, due to adipose tissue), and they began to tolerate physical activity better. All of these factors collectively led to a 15% reduction in the risk of premature death for participants, the researchers emphasize.
