Wages of health workers. How much do doctors, nurses and pharmacists earn?

The CSO published the study “Structure of wages and salaries by occupations in October 2018”. The survey, carried out every two years, shows how much on average individual professional groups earn. The specialists included doctors and nurses, as well as pharmacists, laboratory diagnosticians and dentists. What was their earnings like?

Nurses’ earnings in Poland

According to the data of the Central Statistical Office, in October 2018, specialists achieved an average salary higher by 21,8 percent. on the average remuneration, which in this period amounted to PLN 5003,78 gross. Nurses and midwives were among the least paid specialists. According to statistics, the average salary of a nurse is PLN 5327,64 gross. Men working in this profession earn on average PLN 5340,5 gross, and women PLN 5327,33 gross.

If we take into account the division into the public and private sectors, the salaries are slightly different in the public sector, the average salary of a nurse amounted to PLN 5426,21 gross (men – PLN 5381,83 gross, women – PLN 5427,42 gross). In the private sector, on average, a nurse earned PLN 4824,81 (men – PLN 4645,29 gross, women – PLN 4826,26 gross).

Wages of midwives in Poland

Midwives ‘salaries are similar to nurses’ salaries. The data for October 2018 presented by the Central Statistical Office shows that the average salary of midwives amounted to PLN 5380,41 gross. Men, a small percentage of whom work in this profession, earned on average PLN 5498,33 gross. Women, who constitute the vast majority of this profession, earned an average of PLN 5380,27.

The average salary of a midwife in the public sector amounted to PLN 5455,04 gross (men – 5498,13, women – 5455,02). In the private sector, you could earn PLN 4856 on average. There is no distinction between gender here, because according to GUS data, only women work in this sector.

Earnings of doctors and dentists in Poland

The data from the Central Statistical Office show that the average salary of a doctor in Poland is PLN 9910,12 XNUMX gross. Men practicing this profession earn on average PLN 10439,22 gross, and women PLN 9542,34 gross.

Interestingly, a higher salary can be obtained by working in the public sector. The doctor could count on average earnings of PLN 10026,91 (men – 10618,04, women – 9583,66). In the private sector, on average, a doctor earned PLN 9183,47. In this sector, women are paid better – the average salary for women was PLN 9333,85. Male doctors earned an average of PLN 8824,56.

Dentists earned on average PLN 5497,13 gross (men – PLN 5436,5, women – PLN 5515,91).

Earnings of laboratory diagnosticians in Poland

On average, laboratory diagnostics earned PLN 2018 gross in October 5528,71 (men PLN 6559,85, women – PLN 5409,08). While in the public sector they could not count on higher salaries – on average it amounted to PLN 5177,59 (men – PLN 4948,66, women – PLN 5202,81), in the private sector they could earn quite a lot. The average salary for laboratory diagnosticians in this sector amounted to PLN 6332,26 gross. Interestingly, men’s earnings amounted to PLN 9746,29 gross, and women’s earnings – PLN 5889,45 gross.

The salaries of pharmacists in Poland

In its list, the Central Statistical Office also listed the salaries of pharmacists. On average, they earned PLN 2018 gross in October 5723,06 (men – PLN 6125,5, women PLN 5621,19). The gender pay gap is seen in both the public and private sectors.

In the public sector, a pharmacist earns an average gross salary of PLN 5558,98, and her colleague a pharmacist – PLN 6462,91 gross. In the private sector, the average gross salary of a pharmacist was PLN 6068,76, and a pharmacist’s gross salary of PLN 5629,03.
