Vomiting in Baby

Baby is throwing up? Don’t worry… The vomiting can be spectacular, jetting out of Baby’s mouth and sometimes through the nose…

Causes of vomiting in babies

The baby’s vomiting can have different causes.

Vomiting can be caused by pyloric stenosis. The second leading cause of vomiting in infants after gastroesophageal reflux disease, this disorder affects boys more often. The stenosis is formed in 15-20 days life and the obstacle does not cause vomiting until about three weeks. Vomiting often occurs during meals. The child retains his appetite and often asks for food after vomiting.

If the vomiting is isolated or occurs irregularly, there is no need to worry – it is most likely a small transient digestive disorder linked to dietary errors (too frequent, too large, insufficient meals, too early introduction of certain foods in Baby’s diet, aerophagia, food poisoning, etc.).

Also be aware that some children vomit under the effect of strong teething.

Most infections can cause vomiting in the baby (ear infection, meningitis, thrush, whooping cough, rhino-pharingitis, bronchiolitis, bronchitis, flu…). Also, a cold can also make Baby vomit, due to the phlegm that clogs the throat. A child, under the effect of a strong cough, may also vomit what he has just eaten.

Another possible cause of vomiting in babies: hernie hiatale. It causes a anti-reflux system malfunction localized at the junction of the lower part of the esophagus and the large tuberosity of the stomach.

La so-called acetone crisis can also be a cause of vomiting in the baby. It is, however, quite rare. Some children who are emotional and generally have a heartache in the car seem more likely to have this disorder than others.

– Its characteristics: the child manifests rather suddenly and for no apparent reason an attack of vomiting, and is unable to keep anything in the stomach. This vomiting is characterized by a breath smelling strongly of acetone (an odor resembling Reinette apple).
