Voltaren MAX is a gel for use on the skin with analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling properties. The preparation is intended for use in the case of inflammation of muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments or soft tissues. Voltaren MAX also relieves back pain and mild symptoms of osteoarthritis. The active substance of Voltaren MAX is diclofenac.
Voltaren MAX – what is it?
Over-the-counter Voltaren MAX is a medicine in the form of a white gel for topical application to the skin. This medicinal product relieves muscle and joint discomfort, including pain, swelling and inflammation. The main ingredient of Voltaren MAX is diclofenac, an active substance from the family of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
Voltaren MAX – when to use?
Voltaren MAX can be used by adolescents over 14 years of age and adults in the treatment of back pain, inflammation resulting from injuries (e.g. sprains, bruises, strains) involving muscles, joints, ligaments or tendons. It is also recommended in the case of limited inflammation of soft tissues, such as tennis elbow, inflammation of the tendons, joint capsule or periarticular inflammation.
People over 18 years of age can use Voltaren MAX in the local treatment of osteoarthritis – however, this applies to a limited and mild form of this disease.

Voltaren MAX – how does it work?
The action of Voltaren MAX gel is based primarily on the properties of diclofenac, which is an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase 2 and inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins. Additionally, the preparation has soothing and cooling effect, which is due to the water-alcohol medium. The use of Voltaren MAX on the skin in the case of inflammation associated with rheumatic ailments and injuries:
- relieves pain;
- reduces swelling;
- increases mobility;
- speeds up the treatment process and returns to normal functioning.
For patients using Voltaren MAX, the treatment time may be reduced by 4 days or more.
Voltaren MAX – contraindications to use
The use of Voltaren MAX gel is not always advisable. According to the information contained in the leaflet of the drug, they should not reach for it:
- children younger than 14 years old;
- women in the third trimester of pregnancy;
- people allergic to diclofenac, other NSAIDs or any component of Voltaren MAX.
An allergic reaction to Voltarem MAX may include symptoms such as hives, blistering rash, runny nose, swollen face, swollen tongue, wheezing or shortness of breath.
Voltaren MAX – when to be careful?
Before using Voltaren MAX, read the directions for use and follow the precautions. Care should be taken in the event of skin breakouts, broken skin, or open wounds, and treatment should be discontinued if a rash develops afterwards. The preparation is not intended for use in the oral cavity, but for external use only. It is also not allowed to swallow it. If Voltaren MAX gets into your eyes, rinse them with water and consult a doctor.

Voltaren MAX can be used with bandages or dressings used in the event of sprains, as long as they allow air to enter.
Voltaren MAX – how to use the gel?
Voltaren MAX spreads locally on the skin in the case of adults and children older than 14 years. The drug should be used twice a day, morning and eveningas its analgesic effect lasts up to 12 hours. A small amount of gel, adjusted to the size of the affected area, is rubbed into the sore or swollen areas. A cherry to a walnut-sized serving may be sufficient. The distribution of the drug produces a cooling effect.
Hands should be washed after using Voltaren MAX gel, unless they require treatment. The duration of use of the drug depends on the type of ailment and age:
- up to 14 days, the drug can be used in adults and adolescents over 14 years of age, in the event of tendon inflammation, muscle or joint strain;
- For up to 21 days, the drug can be administered to adults treating pain associated with osteoarthritis (unless otherwise advised by a physician).
In a situation where pain and swelling do not subside within 7 days of starting Voltaren MAX or if these symptoms worsen, it is necessary to consult a doctor.

Voltaren MAX – composition
The drug Voltaren MAX includes diclofenac diethylammonium (active substance), as well as the following excipients:
- butylated hydroxytoluene – may contribute to local skin reactions such as contact dermatitis), as well as irritation of mucous membranes and eyes;
- propylene glycol – can irritate the skin;
- isopropyl alcohol;
- oleic alcohol;
- dietyloamina;macrogol cetostearyl ether
- liquid paraffin;
- cocozylocaprylocapronium;
- carbomer;
- fragrance composition eucalyptus;
- macrogol cetostearyl ether;
- Purified Water.
Voltaren MAX – side effects
Some of the ingredients of the preparation – propylene glycol and butylhydroxytoluene – may irritate the epidermis and cause symptoms of inflammation, as well as irritation of mucous membranes and eyes.
Common side effects of using Voltaren MAX include blistering rash or hives. Difficulty breathing, seizures are very rarely observed asthma, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and swelling of the face, tongue, mouth and larynx. You should also look out for other symptoms that could indicate an allergic reaction, including rash, itchingor erythema. If any of the above symptoms appear, stop using the preparation immediately and then consult a doctor, as it may be an allergic reaction.
The likelihood of interaction with other drugs is low, because the effect of Voltaren MAX gel is local, but the doctor should be informed about all the preparations used, including those available without a prescription.

- Voltaren SR 100 – prolonged release tablets 100 mg;
