The history of the creation of Absolut vodka
Between the origin of the drink and its popularization, there is a significant gap, a gap of 100 years.
The first mention of the drink appeared in 1879, when Lars Olsson Smith launched the production of the Swedish drink Absolut Renat Brännvin (Absolute Renat Brenvin), which means absolutely pure “brewed” wine. Which was prepared from vodka and by distillation of the alcohol-containing mass.
And now, a century later, in 1979, the Swedish state-owned company V&S Vin&Spirit AB decided to break into the American market. To do this, they have developed a completely new product for the premium segment. In the process of brand registration in America, the name of the drink was reduced to one word – Absolut.
But in order for the new product not to lose its Swedish roots, advertising specialist Gunnar Broman suggests creating a bottle based on the prototype of the Swedish pharmacy mixture. And it worked, the bottle became as famous as its filling.
In a short period of time, the Absolut brand managed to displace its predecessors (Finlandia and Stolichnaya), which appeared on the US market 10 years earlier, from the leading positions.
In March 2008, V&S Vin&Spirit AB sold a 100% stake in the French company Pernod Ricard at an auction. Despite this, production remained in Sweden.
