Vitaminum C Aflofarm – indications and dosage

Vitaminum C Aflofarm is a recommended drug:

  1. in states of increased demand for ascorbic acid occurring in prolonged infections, hyperthyroidism, in people with burns and alcoholics,
  2. as a supplement to ascorbic acid deficiency in smokers, with renal failure, long-term dialysis patients, convalescents, and people who work hard and are exposed to long-term effects of low temperatures,
  3. supportive in the treatment of inflammation and fever,
  4. in the period of reduced immunity of the body and allergic conditions,
  5. preventively and as an aid in the course of viral infections.

Dosage

Vitaminum C Aflofarm is in the form of dragees to be taken orally. 

  1. Adults and children 12-17 years of age 300-500 mg / day, prophylactically 100 mg / day,
  2. Children 2-11. years 100-300 mg / d.

Vitaminum C Aflofarm and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Vitamin C Aflofarm are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. doses> 1 g / d should not be administered for oxalate nephrolithiasis.

Vitaminum C Aflofarm – warnings about the preparation

  1. Ascorbic acid contained in Vitamin C Aflofarm increases the absorption of iron.
  2. A daily dose of 200 mg should not be exceeded if there is an increased excretion of urate, cystinates and oxalates in the urine.
  3. In patients with deficiency of blood glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, long-term administration of Vitamin C Aflofarm may cause haemolytic anemia.
  4. You should stop taking the preparation at least 1 day before conducting laboratory tests of blood, urine and stool (due to the risk of false test results).
  5. High doses of vitamin C in people with diabetes may falsify the results of tests for glucose (sugar) in the urine.
  6. Ascorbic acid, when used in therapeutic doses, may cause false-negative blood measurements in the stool.
  7. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking the preparation.
  8. During pregnancy, it is not recommended to use ascorbic acid in excess of the daily requirement for pregnant women (100 mg per day) due to the risk of avitaminosis in newborns.
  9. Breastfeeding women should exercise caution when taking vitamin C.

Vitaminum C Aflofarm with other drugs

  1. Taking high doses of acetylsalicylic acid reduces blood levels of ascorbic acid. Ascorbic acid reduces the excretion of acetylsalicylic acid.
  2. Vitamin C Aflofarm contains vitamin C that increases iron absorption.
  3. Ascorbic acid works synergistically with flavonoids (vitamin C and flavonoids enhance their effect) and enhances the effect of anticoagulants.

Vitaminum C Aflofarm – side effects

  1. High doses of Vitamin C Aflofarm (more than 1 g per day) may cause diarrhea.
  2. Long-term use of high doses of the drug may cause the accumulation of oxalate, urate and cystine stones.
