Children’s health is very fragile and depends on many constituent elements, including vitamin balance. The problem of lack of vitamin D becomes especially relevant in the season of sun deficiency, the need of the child’s body for which is very high.

Why vitamin D is valuable for newborns

For full growth at an accelerated pace and all-round development, which are observed in the first years of a child’s life, he needs a lot of calcium. With milk or milk mixture, he receives the right amount, but calcium is fully absorbed only when consumed in conjunction with vitamin D. In this regard, the child’s nutrition cannot be considered fully complete if the last component is lacking.

What is the danger of a lack and an excess of vitamin D

With a systematic lack of vitamin D, problems arise with the exchange of calcium in the body, the bones become too fragile, which can lead to their deformation and subsequently to severe rickets. That is why vitamin D should be given to infants without fail, but not in arbitrary doses, but only on the recommendation of a doctor.

An excess of vitamin is no less dangerous than its deficiency, as it can lead to complications on the kidneys and premature overgrowth of the fontanelle. Because of this, the opinions of modern pediatricians in the mandatory intake of vitamin D differ, and if not so long ago it was recommended to almost everyone without exception, now there is an opinion that it should not be taken without a tendency to rickets.

To determine the body’s needs for this vitamin, there are special tests, therefore it is advisable to start taking it after passing the tests

How to get the right amount of vitamin D

In natural substances, this vitamin is found in a variety of products, including milk, liver, egg yolk, but the difficulty lies in the fact that, for obvious reasons, they are not included in the baby’s diet. A child receives most of the vitamins with his mother’s milk, which is his only food, but whether it contains enough vitamins is a controversial issue.

It is possible to meet the needs of the baby’s body for vitamin D only through sunbathing, during which the synthesis and accumulation of this substance occurs.

In the summer, there are no difficulties with this, you just need to regularly walk with your child under the shade of trees and make sure that the scattered sun rays can touch open areas of the skin

But when daylight hours shorten and start to get colder, finding enough sunlight becomes problematic, so there is only one way left: to use synthetic vitamin D for children.

It is best to consult with your pediatrician about which type of this vitamin to choose and in what dose to give, since these circumstances depend not only on the state of health of the child, but even on the region of residence. Most often, an aqueous or oil solution is recommended, the selling price of which is low; they are prescribed dropwise from autumn to spring.
