Suspected scurvy – chronic vitamin C deficiency

Test material: serum.

Preparation for the test: on an empty stomach (at least 8 hours).

The course of the study: one-time blood sampling from a vein in the arm.

Time to wait for the result: 1 Day.

Standard: 34-112 µmol/l (6-20 µg/ml).

Comments: Scurvy was most common in seafarers who were deprived of fresh fruit – the main source of vitamin C in their diet for many months. Currently, the determination of vitamin C concentration is of less importance.
