Indications for taking Vitamin C monovitan

Vitamin C monovitan is a drug recommended:

  1. in states of vitamin deficit C and preventing it,
  2. in states of increased demand for vit. C.

Dosage

  1. Adults: ltherapeutically 500-1000 mg/d, preventively 200-500 mg/d.
  2. Children from 5 years of age 100-200 mg / d.

Vitamin C monovitan and contraindications

Contraindications to taking Vitamin C monovitan are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
  2. Do not use doses of 1 g / d in the case of nephrolithiasis and disorders of iron metabolism.

Vitamin C monovitan – warnings

  1. Caution should be exercised in patients suffering from sideroblastic anemia, thalassemia or haemochromatosis.
  2. The use of the preparation should be limited in patients with deficiency of blood glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, with urolithiasis or a tendency to form mineral deposits in the urinary tract, with excessive excretion of oxalic acid in the urine.
  3. Vitamin C taken in doses higher than 400 mg per day may falsify the results of some laboratory tests (e.g. urine glucose (sugar) tests).
  4. Ascorbic acid, when used in therapeutic doses, may give false negative results for blood in the stool.
  5. People with intolerance to certain sugars should consult a doctor before using Vitamin C monovitan.
  6. The preparation may cause allergic reactions.
  7. Pregnant and pregnant women should consult a doctor before taking the drug.
  8. Do not take ascorbic acid in excess of the daily requirement (80-100 mg per day) during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Vitamin C monovitan and other substances

  1. Vitamin C used in high doses (over 1 g per day) causes acidification of the urine, which reduces the excretion of acidic drugs, and increases the excretion of alkaline drugs.
  2. Large doses of vitamin C (over 10 g per day) may reduce the absorption of oral anticoagulants from the gastrointestinal tract, and modify the effects of dicumarol and warfarin.
  3. Vitamin C causes increased absorption of iron from the gastrointestinal tract.
  4. Taking sulfonamides may cause their crystals to precipitate in acidic urine.
  5. The concentration of vitamin C in the blood reduces heavy smoking.
  6. The consumption of ascorbic acid and preparations containing estradiol can lead to an increase in the concentration of estradiol in the blood.

Vitamin C monovitan – side effects

Long-term use of high doses of Vitamin C monovitan may cause:

  1. nausea,
  2. vomiting,
  3. heartburn
  4. stomach cramps
  5. sudden reddening of the skin,
  6. hot flashes
  7. Headache,
  8. insomnia,
  9. may contribute to the formation of calcium oxalate urolithiasis (causing oxalate crystallization in the urine),
  10. the use of vitamin C in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency may cause haemolytic anemia,
  11. A long-term daily dose of more than 600 mg may have a mild diuretic effect.
