Indications for taking Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva is a drug recommended:
- in deficiencies of vitamin C,
- prophylactically in vitamin C deficiency in case of intense demand,
- as adjuvant treatment for colds and flu.
Dosage
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva is in the form of tablets to be taken orally.
- Adults. Orally. 500-1000 mg / d.
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva are:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- should be used with caution in patients with increased urinary oxalate content or a history of nephrolithiasis, decreased glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, haemochromatosis, thalassemia or sideroblastic anemia.
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva – warnings
- Vitamin C in Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva may interfere with some laboratory tests (e.g. urine glucose [sugar], plasma ethyl estradiol, lactate dehydrogenase, liver transaminases, bilirubin, oxalate and uric acid levels in urine, plasma iron and ferritin levels).
- Ascorbic acid, taken in therapeutic doses, may cause false negative results in faecal occult blood tests.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before taking Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva.
- During pregnancy and breastfeeding, ascorbic acid doses should not exceed the daily requirement (80-100 mg per day).
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva and other substances
- Vitamin C increases the effect of increased iron absorption from the gastrointestinal tract and may increase the toxicity of iron preparations.
- The preparation Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva may increase the effect and toxicity of oral anticoagulants and sulphonamides.
- Vitamin C used in high doses (over 1 g per day) causes acidification of the urine, which reduces the excretion of acidic drugs and increases the excretion of alkaline drugs.
Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva – side effects
Long-term high doses of Vitamin C 500 Prolongatum Pliva (more than 1 g per day) may cause:
- diarrhea
- nausea,
- vomiting,
- heartburn
- stomach cramps
- sudden reddening of the skin,
- hot flashes
- Headache,
- insomnia,
- may contribute to the formation of calcium oxalate urolithiasis (causing oxalate crystallization in the urine),
- the use of vitamin C in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency may cause haemolytic anemia.
