Vitamin A – when to do the test, norms

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin. It plays a role in the processes of vision, bone formation, cholesterol synthesis and regeneration of epithelial cells, skin, hair and nails.

When do we do?

1. Suspected vitamin A deficiency – “night blindness”.

2. Vitamin A poisoning.

Test material: serum.

Preparation for the test: on an empty stomach (at least 8 hours).

The course of the study: one-time blood sampling from a vein in the arm.

Time to wait for the result: 1 Day.

Standard: 1,05-2,27 µmol/l (300-650 ng/ml).

Comments: indications for oral administration of vitamin A exist only in the case of its deficiency.
