Vita-Gem what is a preparation used in states of vitamin deficiency. C (e.g. inflammation of the mucous membranes, scurvy), states of increased demand for vitamin. C (e.g. in the course of colds, in recurrent infections of the upper respiratory tract, during the convalescence period).

Vita-Gem C – indications and dosage

Vita-Gem C is a drug recommended:

  1. in states of vitamin C deficiency, such as: inflammation of the mucous membranes or scurvy,
  2. in states of intense need for vitamin C, such as: colds, recurrent infections of the upper respiratory tract and convalescence.

Dosage

Vita-Gem C is a preparation in the form of an effervescent powder for oral administration.

  1. Adults and adolescents after 12 years of age 1 pack / day, after dissolving the content in 3/4 cup of water.

Vita-Gem C and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Vita-Gem C are:

  1. allergy to any of its ingredients,
  2. urolithiasis,
  3. excessive excretion of oxalate in the urine
  4. iron metabolism disorders,
  5. should not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Vita-Gem C – warnings

  1. Caution should be exercised when using Vita-Gem C in people prone to the formation of mineral deposits in the urinary tract, in people with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (risk of red blood cell haemolysis), in patients with cystinuria, gout and thalassemia.
  2. The drug contains aspartame and should not be used in patients with phenylketonuria.
  3. Patients with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not use the preparation.

Vita-Gem C with other substances

  1. Ascorbic acid accelerates the elimination of amphetamines and tricyclic antidepressants, increases the effect and toxicity of anticoagulants (coumarin derivatives), as well as sulfonamides and PAS, and increases iron absorption.
  2. Flavonic glycosides and ascorbic acid mutually enhance their action.
  3. When used in high doses, Vita-Gem C may falsify the results of laboratory tests for blood, urine and stools (e.g. determination of blood or urine glucose or creatinine levels, fecal occult blood determination).
  4. Pregnant women may use the drug only if, in the doctor’s opinion, the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
  5. Breastfeeding women may take the preparation only after consulting a doctor.

Vita-Gem C – side effects

Taking high doses of ascorbic acid contained in Vita-Gem C (more than 1 g / d) may cause heartburn or diarrhea and the formation of mineral deposits in the urinary system (urate, cystine, oxalic stones). On the other hand, too long-term use of the drug may increase the body’s tolerance to vitamin C and, if it is discontinued, it may lead to scurvy.
