Visine Classic is a drug used in the symptomatic treatment of conjunctival swelling and redness caused by smoke, dust, chlorinated water, light, cosmetics, contact lenses, in allergic inflammations. The preparation is in the form of eye drops dispensed by a pharmacy without a prescription.

Visine Classic – indications and dosage
Visine Classic indications: symptomatic treatment of conjunctival swelling and hyperemia caused by smoke, dust, chlorinated water, light, cosmetics, contact lenses, allergic inflammations
Dosage
- Adults and children after the age of 6 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac of each eye 2-3 times a day.
Before instillation, remove contact lenses and reinsert them approx. 15 minutes after using the preparation.
Visine Classic and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of Visine Classic are:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- angle-closure glaucoma,
- do not use in children under 2 years of age,
- in children from 2 to 6 years of age the use of the drug should take place under the supervision of a physician,
- in pregnant and breastfeeding women, use after consulting a doctor.
Visine Classic – warnings
- If symptoms worsen or do not improve after 2 days, a doctor should be consulted.
- Visine Classic is intended only for the treatment of moderate conjunctival irritation. Irritation or redness from serious eye conditions such as infection, foreign matter, or chemical damage to the cornea requires medical attention.
- In the event of: severe eye pain, headache, loss of vision, sudden appearance of moving spots in the field of vision, sudden redness of the eyes, pain caused by light or double vision, consult a doctor immediately.
- Long-term use of Visine Classi should be avoided, especially in children.
- The use of the preparation requires special care and possible consultation with a doctor in the case of people with severe cardiovascular diseases (e.g. coronary arterial disease, arterial hypertension, pheochromocytoma) and / or metabolic disorders (e.g. patients with diabetes, hyperthyroidism) thyroid gland), as well as in the case of people suffering from dry rhinitis, keratoconjunctivitis and glaucoma.
- If you are using MAO inhibitors (and also within 14 days of discontinuing their use) or drugs that may increase blood pressure, consult your doctor before using the preparation.
- The drops contain benzalkonium chloride, which may cause eye irritation.
- Contact with soft contact lenses should be avoided.
- Remove contact lenses before using them and wait at least 15 minutes before putting them back in.
- Visine Classic changes the color of contact lenses.
- In order to avoid contamination of the preparation, do not touch any surface with the tip of the container, and tightly close the container after use.
- One month after first opening the container, the medicine should be discarded, even if it has not been used.
- Due to possible systemic side effects, the preparation can be used in pregnant and breastfeeding women only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary.
- Mydriasis and blurred vision may occur after using Visine Classic. In such case, you should not drive or operate a motor vehicle.
Visine Classic with other drugs
- Visine Classic, when used simultaneously with MAO inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, guanethidine or reserpine (administered systemically) may increase blood pressure.
- Do not use the drug without prior consultation with your doctor in people taking MAO inhibitors (and within 14 days of discontinuing their use) or other drugs that may raise blood pressure.
Visine Classic – side effects
There may be: blurred vision, conjunctival irritation, congestion, burning sensation of mucous membranes, dry mucous membranes, systemic effects (e.g. heart palpitations, headache, tremors, weakness, hyperhidrosis and increased blood pressure), rarely mydriasis.
Very rarely Hyperkeratosis of the conjunctival epithelium with closure of the lacrimal points and excessive tearing may occur. In newborns and children up to 2 years of age, there is a risk associated with the risk of absorption of an excessive dose of the drug, e.g. by ingestion. This can cause disturbances in the central nervous system such as increased blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythm, fast heart beat (tachycardia), arrhythmia, slow heart beat (bradycardia).
