Vitamin D3 is produced by the body when exposed to the sun. Just 20 minutes of exposure to the sun is enough to meet the body’s need for this vitamin. However, in summer and spring, we protect the skin against solar radiation with creams, and there are not enough sunny days during the other seasons of the year. Therefore, deficiencies of this vitamin may occur. Vigantoletten tablets allow you to supplement the deficiencies.

Why is vitamin D3 important for the body?

Vitamin D3 is essential for the proper absorption of calcium and phosphorus by the body. It maintains the proper concentration of these elements in the blood, which translates into the proper mineralization of bones and teeth, as well as the smooth functioning of the circulatory system.

Deficiencies lead to bone decalcification, which causes rickets in children and osteoporosis in adults.

Symptoms of vitamin deficiency:

  1. bone and muscle pain,
  2. painful muscle spasms
  3. periodontal disease,
  4. sleep disturbances,
  5. blurred vision,
  6. a burning sensation and disgust in the mouth and throat.

In infants, symptoms of a lack of vitamin D3 include:

  1. flat head,
  2. delayed fontanel overgrowth,
  3. bumps on the forehead,
  4. “Frog’s belly” (the belly “spills” to the sides).

Vigantoletten – indications

Vigantoletten is in the form of tablets containing vitamin D3. Therefore, its operation boils down to:

  1. prevention of shortages
  2. supplementing vitamin deficiencies
  3. treating deficiency symptoms.

The exact action of Vigantoletten is based on the properties of cholecalciferol, which through active metabolites, especially calcitriol, increases the absorption of calcium and phosphate in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, calcium is also reabsorbed in the kidneys and the levels of calcium and phosphate in the blood. Vigantoletten also inhibits the secretion of parathyroid hormone from the parathyroid glands, facilitates bone mineralization and prevents the loss of calcium from the body.

It is therefore indicated for:

  1. children to prevent rickets by keeping vitamin D3 at the right level
  2. adults suffering from osteoporosis and osteomalacia.

Vigantoletten – leaflet

The tablets are available over the counter. However, this does not mean that they can be dosed without any control. The dosage of the preparation depends on the needs of a given person, and so for the prevention of rickets in newborns, infants and children: 1 tablet a day.

For the prevention of diseases with a known risk of vitamin D deficiency: 1 tablet a day. In the case of prevention of vitamin D deficiency with diagnosed malabsorption in children and adults: 6-10 tablets a day. In the case of adjuvant treatment of osteoporosis: 2 tablets a day.

It should also be remembered that in the case of newborns, infants and toddlers, you should dissolve the tablet in water on a teaspoon and give the aqueous suspension directly to the child’s mouth, preferably with a meal. Adults can take the tablet with enough fluid. Babies and young children must be under the supervision of a doctor, adults should only consult a doctor when using the tablets for a long time. Because not only vitamin D3 deficiency is harmful, but also excessive dosing of Vigantolette tablets. The leaflet explains this in detail.

Do not exceed the recommended dose. Excess vitamin D3 causes – paradoxically – calcium losses, which may come as a surprise to people with osteoporosis who want to improve the condition of their bones by taking this preparation. This is due to the decrease in vitamin K2 levels, which leads to leaching of calcium from the bones.

Worth knowing: Poles are deficient in vitamin D

Is taking Vigantoletten safe?

Vitamin D3 tablets should not be taken by people suffering from:

  1. kidney stones,
  2. kidney failure
  3. alleged hypoparathyroidism;
  4. with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or β-fructofuranosidase or isomaltase deficiency.

Contraindications also apply to people who have too much calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia) and suffer from hypercalciuria – excessive excretion of calcium in the urine). Contraindications also apply to people with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients. The preparation should also not be used by people who are hypersensitive to soy or peanuts.

Some people may experience side effects such as:

  1. stomach pain,
  2. constipation or diarrhea
  3. nausea,
  4. vomiting,
  5. itchy skin
  6. rash.
important

There have also been isolated reports of deaths due to intoxication (overdose) with vitamin D. This was followed by renal or heart failure.

User reviews are positive about the effectiveness of the Vigantoletten supplement. It brings the improvement of the bone condition, confirmed by tests, in the case of osteoporosis. Doctors also confirm the effectiveness of supplementation in the case of children.

Vigantoletten and pregnancy

In the case of pregnant women, it is allowed to take the preparation only when absolutely necessary. Then the smallest possible doses should be used, which are necessary to eliminate the deficiency. The preparation should be used with great caution, because hypercalcemia in a pregnant woman may delay the mental and physical development of the child, as well as a specific form of aortic stenosis and retinopathy.

Vigantoletten and breastfeeding

Although the substances contained in the preparation penetrate into breast milk, these are relatively low concentrations, and there are no contraindications for the intake of vitamin D by breastfeeding women.

Vigantoletten – use with other preparations

It should be known that the use of the preparation together with some drugs may lead to interactions. Particular attention should be paid to patients who take during therapy:

  1. phenytoin and / or barbiturates, which may reduce the effectiveness of vitamin D;
  2. glucocorticosteroids, as they carry the risk of suppressing the effect of cholecalciferol;
  3. Aluminum-containing antacids, which increase the levels of aluminum in the blood, which in turn increases the risk of its toxicity to the bones;
  4. antacids containing magnesium, as there is a risk of an increase in the level of magnesium in the blood;
  5. Thiazide diuretics, as they reduce the excretion of calcium by the kidneys and may lead to hypercalcaemia;
  6. rifampicin and / or isoniazid, which may enhance vitamin D metabolism and reduce its effectiveness;
  7. digitalis, because it can increase its toxicity;
  8. vitamin D analogues or metabolites (e.g. calcitriol), because their use together with the preparation is possible only in exceptional situations, when it is necessary to monitor the concentration of calcium in the blood serum.

In addition, patients who use cardiac glycosides must also be carefulsince during combination therapy, an increase in calcium levels in the body increases the risk of glycoside toxicity, including the likelihood of developing an arrhythmia. When a patient is taking both drugs at the same time, regular ECG tests and monitoring of calcium levels in the blood serum and urine are necessary.

Before use, read the leaflet, which contains indications, contraindications, data on side effects and dosage as well as information on the use of the medicinal product, or consult your doctor or pharmacist, as each drug used improperly is a threat to your life or health.
