Vercef – indications, dosage, contraindications, interactions. Side effects of an antibacterial drug

Vercef is a systemic antibacterial drug. Beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. Recommended in pneumonia, bronchitis, middle ear and bladder inflammation. The medicine is in the form of capsules or granules and can only be obtained with a prescription.

Indications for the use of Vercef

Vercef is a preparation recommended for the treatment of the following infections caused by bacteria sensitive to cefaclor:

  1. lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, bronchitis
  2. exacerbation of chronic bronchitis,
  3. pharyngitis and tonsillitis,
  4. otitis media and sinusitis,
  5. urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis, cystitis,
  6. skin and soft tissue infections,

Vercef and contraindications

A contraindication to the use of Vercef is an allergy to any of its ingredients.

Dosage

Adults:

  1. The recommended dose is usually 250 mg every 8 hours. For more severe infections (e.g. pneumonia) your doctor may double the dose (i.e. 500 mg every 8 hours). The maximum dose is 4 g per day.
  2. In people with renal insufficiency, the dosage may need to be adjusted by a doctor. Patients undergoing hemodialysis require a special dosing schedule.
  3. No dosage adjustment is necessary in the elderly.

Children after 1 month of age (applies only to the preparation in the form of granules for oral suspension):

  1. The usual dose is: 20 mg / kg body weight daily in 3 divided doses (every 8 hours). In otitis media and pharyngitis, the daily dose may be administered in 2 divided doses (every 12 hours). For more severe infections, such as otitis media and sinusitis, your doctor may prescribe a dose of 40 mg / kg body weight daily in divided doses. The maximum dose is 1 g per day.

There are no data on the safety of the preparation in children in the first month of life.

In people with renal insufficiency, the dosage may need to be adjusted by a doctor. Patients undergoing hemodialysis require a special dosing schedule.

Use Vercef orally. It is recommended to take the preparation on an empty stomach, before a meal.

A measuring spoon is attached to the packaging of Vercef in the form of granules for the preparation of an oral suspension, allowing you to measure the dose of the previously prepared suspension prescribed by your doctor. The bottle of suspension should be shaken before each dose measuring. The bottle with the suspension should be stored in a refrigerator (2-8 degrees C) for no longer than 14 days.

Vercef – warnings

Note:

  1. Caution should be exercised in patients with impaired renal function.
  2. If you have or have had gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, consult your doctor.
  3. Vercef may cause a false-positive Coombs test, also in newborns born to mothers treated with cephalosporins before delivery (this may affect the results of cross-matching prior to blood transfusion).
  4. Vercef does not impair the activities of driving motor vehicles and operating machinery.
  5. Pregnant women should consult a doctor before use.
  6. Cefaclor passes into breast milk and is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women.

Vercef – interactions

If you use: anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), oral contraceptives, antacids, probenecid, please inform your doctor.

Vercef – side effects

Vercef can cause, among other things: confusional state, tension, nervousness, hyperactivity, candidiasis (thrush) of mucous membranes and hypersensitivity reactions (rash, itching, urticaria), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous enteritis, thrombocytopenia, transient leukopenia / neutropenia, dyspnoea, syncope, anaphylactic shock.
