Velika grapes: description, planting and care

The “Velika” grape differs from other varieties in its high yield and large berry size. However, in order to achieve this result, you need to know the peculiarities of growing this plant.

Description of the grape variety “Velika”

The grape bushes grow rapidly. Bunches “Velika” are medium, canonical and cylindrical. The berries are dark purple in color and are large in size. Grapes are classified as table varieties. The fruits are eaten fresh and used to prepare various drinks.

The “Velika” grape was developed in Bulgaria

The main digital indicators of grapes:

  • maximum bunch weight – 1 kg;
  • brush length – 19 cm;
  • berry weight – 14 g;
  • fruit length – 3 cm;
  • yield from one bush – 10 kg.

The ripening period is 130 days. The berries have excellent commercial characteristics – they easily tolerate long-term transportation and can be stored for a long time. “Velika” is frost-resistant. In regions with rather warm winters, it does not need shelter.

A sunny, windless place is suitable for rooting. Young bushes can be planted both in spring and autumn. However, it is better for a beginner not to consider the latter option. Unlike other varieties, grapes grow poorly near buildings and trees, it is better to retreat from them at least five meters. Before the procedure, the seedling must be soaked in warm water for XNUMX hours.

During landing, follow this algorithm:

  1. Prepare a hole with a depth and diameter of 0,8 meters.
  2. Lay a drainage layer of fine gravel on the bottom.
  3. Pour in the next layer, consisting of black soil and mineral fertilizers.
  4. Cover the previous layers with enough fertile soil.
  5. Install the support.
  6. Lower the seedling into the hole so that the root collar looks out.
  7. Fill the hole with the rest of the soil.

After the procedure, the seedling must be watered abundantly.

Variety care has its own characteristics, however, like other species, “Velika” needs moderate moisture. For one adult bush, you need to spend about four buckets of water. It is necessary to water the plant as standard, before and after flowering. In preparation for winter, the plant should also be moistened.

Top dressing is carried out once every three months. Organic and mineral fertilizers are suitable for the procedure.

In spring and autumn, pruning is necessary to form a bush and remove dried and diseased shoots.

If you live in a region with relatively frosty winters and do not like to cover the plant, then this grape variety is what you need. But remember that despite the unpretentiousness, the bushes need minimal maintenance.
