The term vegetarianism has been used since 1839, originally as a synonym for a vegetable diet. Over time, the name and group of meat-restricted diets has evolved and split into individual fractions, each allowing or rejecting specific types of animal products. Here’s a breakdown of vegetarian diets.
Semiwegetarianism and fleksitarianism
Most vegetarians do not include them in a vegetarian diet. Opinions on their belonging are divided, however, these are diets with a restriction of meat products, so it is not a mistake to write them down here. Both diets allow the presence of meat in the diet. In case of flexitarianism it is allowed to eat several meat meals a week, or to eat meat occasionally, e.g. at parties. On a daily basis, such a person may conform to the principles of a vegan or lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet. In the case of a diet semi-vegetarian Red meat is eliminated, while the presence of poultry and fish is allowed. Another branch is this polovegetarianism including poultry meat and pesicvegetarianism allowing fish in the diet. Each of these types of vegetarianism is beneficial to your health because it eliminates red meat, which has been linked to a number of health problems, including the development of certain cancers. They can also be called rational, healthy eating for short.
Lacto-ovo-vegetarianism
People who feed this way they allow dairy products and eggs in their diet. Often, when we think of vegetarians, we mean this diet. However, as I wrote above, vegetarian diets are a broader concept that can be divided into individual types.
It is worth noting here that you can additionally distinguish lacto-vegetarianism and ovo-vegetarianism. The first diet of animal products allows you to eat only dairy products, and the second one uses only eggs.
Veganism
In this case, there is no consent to no animal product, neither on the plate nor in clothes. Red meat, poultry, dairy products, eggs, honey are eliminated, but also such animal additives as gelatin. Clothing vegans avoid leather, fur, wool or silk.
Frutarianism
Fruitarians base their nutrition only on fruits and vegetables that are fruit as part of the plant. Here you can mention avocado, cucumber, tomato, pumpkin, zucchini, etc. They also eat nuts, seeds and grain products. It is important that collecting the products that the plant produces does not harm it, then such an article can be on their plate. So spinach, carrots or potatoes are no longer available.
Vitarianism
This diet only allows you to gentle heating of products, however, generally relies on raw and unprocessed products. The point is not to deactivate the enzymes contained in the products. It is usually based on the principles of a vegan diet and only allows vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts. Sometimes, however, it may contain unpasteurized milk or raw meat or fish.
In the case of diets with complete elimination of animal products, it is very important to pay attention to the proper balancing of the diet. More than once, vegetarians must reach for additional supplementation iron, zinc or vitamin B12whose natural sources are animal products. When planning their menu, they should pay attention to the limiting amino acid in a given product. You can read more about this in the article on types of protein.
