Variety of onion Baron
The Baron onion is one of the best red onions for the cool northern climates. It has a pleasant taste and a lot of vitamins.
Its more accurate name is “Red Baron”. This vegetable combines the sweetness of salad varieties with the spice of yellow onions.
This bow has an interesting feature. On the outside, it is red and the flesh is white. As the onions are stored, the color of the flesh changes to pink. The tones “flow” into the core. In addition to this interesting feature, the Red Baron has other advantages:
- this variety is suitable for northern regions and Siberia;
- his fruits are large and, with good care, can reach 150 grams;
- this onion is early ripening, its ripening period is 3 months;
- Baron is a high-yielding variety, from 1 m² you can get up to 3 kg of onions;
- it is sweet enough for salads.
The disadvantages of this wonderful plant include short shelf life. Onions can lie for about 2-3 months, but they are well suited for canning.
Growing Red Baron onions from sets
Sevok must be pre-warmed before planting. To do this, you can put it under the battery for a month. The smallest set will not give an arrow, so the bulbs will turn out better from it:
- soak the planting material in water two days before planting;
- before planting, dip the bulbs in a solution of pink potassium permanganate for a day;
- dry the bulbs.
It is necessary to plant onions in the spring, when the soil temperature reaches 10-12 ° C. The place should be lit, in extreme cases, partial shade is suitable.
Planting must be done to the entire depth of the bulb, sprinkling it with earth on top. The distance between the rows is 15-20 cm. 5-10 cm should be left between the onions, depending on the size of the set itself. Carrots are a good neighbor for onions.
You need to feed the onions with organic fertilizer. It can be infusion of mullein or humus. The first feeding can be done after 20 days. The upper part of the onion should protrude from the ground, so you should sometimes shovel the soil off it, pouring it over the carrots.
Watering depends on the ripening stage of the onion
When the onion begins to grow, it is watered 1-2 times a week. Less often you need to water when the bulb is ripe. Watering should be stopped 2 weeks before harvesting, then the onions have a chance to survive longer.
Despite the fact that the harvest of this onion variety is not very well stored, you can try to keep it in a ventilated room by making braids out of it. But if it doesn’t work out, it doesn’t matter. The Baron is so tasty and rich in vitamins that he will not be able to lie down for a long time, but for another reason.
