Varieties of home indoor cacti

There are many varieties of indoor cacti. There are flowering, thornless, with an original shape, as well as species that never bloom. Which one to choose depends only on your own preferences.

Varieties of cacti that bloom

The flowering of cacti is unusual and colorful. This group includes a huge number of species, some are surprising in their shape. All cacti are undemanding to care for. Several species can be grown in one container at once, including non-flowering ones. Cactus compositions look interesting.

There are varieties of cacti with and without thorns.

Popular types:

  • “Mammillaria”. One of the most demanded varieties. The shape of the cactus is oval, there is a cobweb between the needles. White flowers appear in spring, they are located in the form of a wreath at the top of the stem.
  • “Rebuzia”. It is a small ball, up to 10 cm in diameter. There are dwarf varieties of this species, cacti grow up to 2,5 cm in height. Flowers are located at the bottom, they encircle the stem in the form of a wreath.
  • Cereus. This cactus has two types. One blooms during the day, while the other flowers open at night. Inflorescences are white, rather large.
  • “Notocactus”. The stem of the plant is spherical; large flowers will grow at its top, up to 8 cm in diameter. The inflorescences consist of several rows of petals.

In order for the listed varieties of cacti to bloom, plant them in high-quality, drained soil. A mixture of turf, humus and sand in equal proportions is suitable.

Rest in winter is a prerequisite for many flowering varieties. Plants for the winter need to be rearranged in a cool room. If this is not done, then you will not wait for flowering next year.

Non-flowering varieties of home cacti

These indoor plants are distinguished by an unusual shape or color of the stem:

  • “Senile cephalocereus”. The stem is cylindrical in shape, it is wrapped in a silvery cobweb.
  • “Echinocactus Gruson”. Cactus in the shape of a ball. It is covered with yellow thorns.
  • Strauss’s Cleistocactus. An adult cactus reaches 1 m in height. The surface of the stem is covered with white spines and hairs.
  • “Opuntia is fine-haired.” The plant grows up to 30 cm in height. There are small white or red thorns.

Despite the fact that these types of cacti will not please with flowering, they are of interest to designers because they look beautiful.

Home cacti will protect you from harmful computer radiation. Provide adequate lighting for these plants to thrive and enjoy the eye. With proper care, cacti can become an interior element.
