Varieties and cultivation of remontant blackberries

Let’s take a closer look at the main types:

• Ruben. It grows in a neat, compact bush, rather high – 1,5-1,7 m. The branches are directed upwards, so no support is required. It blooms very beautifully. It gives up to 15 kg of harvest, the berries are large, weighing 8-12 g, have a sweet dessert taste, without sourness. Differs in drought resistance, but poorly pollinated in the heat. Early ripening, on last year’s shoots begins to bear fruit in early June and ends in a month. And on annuals – in early August and until the end of October.
• Prime Jim. Studded, tall, upright. Differs in a special yield, has proven itself well in the northern regions. Fruits are medium in size, elongated, have a sweet taste with a pronounced acidity. The first time bears fruit in the spring, the second in August.
• Prime Yang. Has a very sweet fruit and fruity aroma. The berries are dense, up to 15 g, but medium in size. Ripens at the end of summer. Powerful erect shoots can reach 2 meters in height. Under the weight of the fruit, they can lean low to the ground, in this case support is needed. Produces good yields in northern regions. There are no problems with pollination.
• Freedom. The first thornless view. Produces a good harvest, where spring and autumn are long and warm. The first berries appear in early summer, and the second fruiting occurs in August and lasts until cold weather. Juicy large berries up to 17 g, with a pleasant sweet taste and small seeds.

Soil and climatic conditions and growing technology affect how bountiful harvest will be.

In this type of blackberry it is genetically laid to bear fruit twice a year. With this type of cultivation for the winter, the shoots are bent to the ground and covered warmer. The first berries appear in June, and the second, the most abundant harvest, in August-September.

If grown in a one-year cycle, then all the shoots that have borne fruit should be cut off at the root at ground level in late autumn, not covered. With this method, the harvest will be once a year, but large and long-lasting.

Landing is done as follows:

1. Select a lighted place, 20-30 days before planting, dig a hole 60 by 60 cm.
2. Fill well with organic matter, for example 15-20 kg of manure and 500 ml of ash.
3. Plant the bushes in a row every 0,4 m, and rows from each other at 1,7 m.
4. Spread grass, straw and peat mulch under each bush.

Create shade for the shoots throughout the week. Water abundantly and regularly.
