For many people, varicose veins are a cosmetic defect, however, it should be remembered that it is primarily a health problem that should be addressed. Their occurrence is most often genetically determined, but there are factors that may increase the probability of their occurrence. There are ointments, creams, gels and tablets available in pharmacies that help to improve blood circulation.
Medicines for varicose veins – symptoms, causes of ailments
Genetic conditions are the main cause of varicose veins. Blue changes on the skin, calf cramps, burning skin, leg pain, swelling – these are the most important symptoms that indicate that you may be dealing with varicose veins. Varicose veins is primarily a disease that should be examined and consulted with a doctor. These types of skin changes are visible, and as the disease develops, they become more and more pronounced (often to the point where women stop wearing shorts or skirts). So it is a big aesthetic defect.
Varicose veins medications – what is effective?
In the pharmacy, you can buy various types of preparations that improve circulation and, to some extent, reduce symptoms. Treatment of varicose veins is not easy, so it should be carried out on various levels.
- pharmacological treatment – you should start with choosing the right tablets that will improve circulation. For this, it is best to visit a doctor so that he can prescribe the appropriate tablets.
- local treatment – supplementing pharmacological treatment. For this purpose, various ointments, creams and gels are used, which are most often available over the counter in pharmacies. Many people do not take any medications and use only over-the-counter preparations.
- surgical treatment – the operation is performed on people who are struggling with really huge varicose veins that hinder everyday functioning and performing certain activities. This is the final step, but very often it is the only way to restore full fitness.
Varicose veins tablets should contain, among others: diosmin, hesperidin, calcium dobesylate, troxerutin, escin. These are substances that affect circulation and the elasticity of blood vessels. Ointments and gels should contain: heparin, horse chestnut extract, escin and troxerutin. Keeping the legs a little higher, for example on a hard day’s work, also helps. This improves blood circulation, reduces swelling in the legs and reduces the feeling of heaviness. In order to prevent the advanced form of the disease, you should see a doctor as soon as you notice the first, even minor symptoms.
Varicose veins medications – don’t forget about herbs
Some herbs have anti-inflammatory, vein-sealing and anti-swelling properties. Such herbs include: arnica basket, horse chestnut extract, witch hazel leaf and marigold flowers. Herbs can be drunk or rubbed into places where varicose veins begin to appear. It is also worth using such treatments prophylactically to improve circulation.
