Varicose veins and pregnancy
Varicose veins during pregnancy are caused by increased stress on the limbs. Visually, varicose veins resemble spider veins or spider veins, which can appear not only on the legs, but also on the hands, as well as in the pelvic area. Preventing the problem is much easier than treating it if you do prevention early in pregnancy.
Causes and symptoms of varicose veins during pregnancy
The reasons for the development of pathology can be different.
- Venous insufficiency is the main cause of the development of the disease and can be transmitted genetically. In this case, pregnancy is the first impetus to the development of the problem.
- Hormonal changes in the body lead to a weakening of the vascular walls and, as a result, varicose veins.
- A sedentary lifestyle, as well as the rapid weight gain of the expectant mother, can provoke a deterioration in blood flow. The extra pounds put a serious strain on the lower limbs, thereby leading to the progression of the disease.
- The uterus, which expands as the fetus grows, puts pressure on the pelvic area and increases intravenous pressure. This can provoke varicose veins of the small pelvis during pregnancy. The consequence of this form of the disease is hemorrhoids, varicose veins of the vulva, labia.
It is important to recognize the problem in time so that it does not go into a dangerous stage.
Symptoms and prevention of varicose veins
In the first trimester, a woman is not worried about anything, except for the appeared nets and capillaries on the skin. But during the second and third trimesters, the first signs may appear:
- pain in the lower extremities or in the pelvic area;
- feeling of increased tone and heaviness in the muscles;
- convulsions;
- swelling;
- increased fatigue when walking.
Varicose veins and pregnancy often go hand in hand; it is easier to prevent varicose veins than to cure them. From the first days of pregnancy, women should be on the safe side and make every effort to improve blood circulation and reduce the load on the lower extremities.
You need to move a lot, often rotate your arms, bend your elbows and knees, stand on your toes, and often lie on your side. It is important to reconsider the diet of the expectant mother: exclude dishes that contribute to blood thickening: fatty, smoked and spicy. It is also worth abandoning high-heeled shoes, replacing them with comfortable sports models.
A phlebologist is engaged in the treatment of varicose veins, who will offer you the best options for solving the problem: surgical, medical or sclerotherapy.
