Vana Tallinn liquor: with what and how to drink + description and composition

Old Tallinn (Old Tallinn – Estonian) – spicy strong brown liqueur. It has a cinnamon-vanilla aroma, a mild rum-caramel taste and a long citrus aftertaste.

Created in Soviet Estonia in 1962, the drink quickly gained popularity in Eastern Europe. Today it is produced by Liviko.

Composition and types of Vana Tallinn

It is worth noting that the modern composition of the liquor is somewhat different from the Soviet one.

Unlike the original version, it does not contain rum extract, which was used in the socialist food industry, but an authentic Caribbean drink.

In addition to rum, the composition of the Tallinn elixir includes the following components: grain alcohol, sugar, water, oranges, lemons, orange oil, vanilla, cinnamon and some local herbs.

Since in the XNUMXst century liquor manufacturers are not unsuccessfully trying to establish their products in the Western European market, they have developed several derivative modifications of the classic drink:

  1. Original

Kepost – 40 degrees, target audience – Germany and France.

  2. Strong

Ethanol content – 50%, target audience – residents of Scandinavia.

  3. Cream liqueurs

Creamy, orange, chocolate and coffee: fortress – 16 degrees, target audience – the fair sex.

In addition, Estonian alcohol makers have created several freer variations on the theme of their favorite liquor:

  1. winter spice

Christmas drink with nutmeg, cardamom, ginger and anise.

  2. Summer Lime

Summer version with lime and mint.

  3. Heritage edition

An extremely rich drink, which uses dark rum, aged for decades in bourbon barrels.

  4. Signature

A blend of Estonian liquor and authentic cognac.

  5. Liviko’s 12-degree glög, a drink made from red wine slightly diluted with Vana Tallinn, is a kind of tribute to the northern European tradition.

How and with what they drink Vana Tallinn + cocktail recipes

Any of the above drink options are best consumed neat from classic liquor shots. The only acceptable (but far from mandatory) addition, in this case, is an ice cube.

In addition, Vana Tallinn can be added to strong black coffee, hot chocolate and black or herbal tea.

The most suitable mix, liquor manufacturers consider a mixture of the latter with apple juice, in a 1: 1 ratio. In addition, the Estonian elixir can be mixed with lemon or pineapple juice, vermouth, and semi-sweet sparkling wine.

And, finally, among the cocktails that use the drink of interest to us, it is worth mentioning the following:
