This is the first procedure of this type in Poland. Artur Działdowski received two new valves, a mitral and aortic valve, which were implanted through the tip of his heart.
In Poland, about 5 jobs are performed every year. procedures to repair or replace degenerated heart valves. Until now, in order to replace the valve, it was necessary to open the chest or implant it through the femoral artery. These were high-risk operations with a long recovery period.
In the case of Mr. Artur Działdowski, who required transplantation of as many as two valves – mitral and aortic – it was impossible to perform the procedure using the methods used so far. For this reason, Polish surgeons decided to perform an operation that has not been performed in Poland so far – heart tip transplantation. Only the Dutch carried out similar procedures in Europe.
An undoubted advantage of the new technique is the need to make only a small incision on the chest. As a result, the patients endure the procedure better, feel good after it and recover faster.
The operation was a complete success. We hope that it will soon become the new standard in cardiac surgery.
