Valused – general characteristics of the drug

Valused is an over-the-counter preparation. It contains extracts from three valued plant materials, i.e. valerian root, hops, and passion fruit. This drug primarily has a sedative effect, relieves symptoms in states of nervous tension, and also helps with periodic difficulties in falling asleep due to nervous disorders.

Valused is available as oval soft capsules with an olive green color and a smooth, shiny surface. One a pack of Valused contains 30 capsules.

Valused – composition and action of the drug

Valused is a composition of three ingredients:

  1. valerian (Latin Valerianae officinalis radix) – this ingredient has a calming effect, thanks to which it soothes increased excitability and strong emotional states. It also has a calming effect, which soothes the feeling of fear and anxiety. In addition, valerian root has a relaxing effect on the smooth muscles of the digestive tract, urinary tract and peripheral blood vessels, thus preventing nervous disorders of the digestive tract. The advantage of this plant is that its long-term use is not addictive;
  2. hop cones (Latin Humuli lupuli strobuli) – has a calming and calming effect. The effect of hop cones also prevents nervous system disorders. It also makes it easier to fall asleep;
  3. the passion herb of the flesh (Latin Passiflorae incarnata herba) – the mechanism of action of this plant is to relieve anxiety and excessive excitability. It has a calming effect and makes it easier to fall asleep. As in the case of valerian, the use of passion flower is not addictive.

The above ingredients are the active substances of Valused, and their proportions in one capsule of the preparation (1 g) are as follows:

  1. 60 mg of valerian root dry extract, including 99-100% of native extract (DER 3-4: 1), extractant: ethanol 60% V / V;
  2. 40 mg of dry extract of hop cones, including 69,5-100% of native extract (DER 5: 1), extractant: methanol 30% V / V; 
  3. 40 mg of passion fruit dry extract, including 25-50% of native extract (DER 2,7: 1), extractant: ethanol 90% V / V.

In addition, other excipients are used to make Valused capsules. They are: colloidal anhydrous silica, maltodextrin, anhydrous glucose, refined soybean oil, soy lecithin, hydrated coconut oil, refined palm oil and yellow wax.

The ingredients of the gelatin capsule are pork gelatin, glycerol, liquid, non-crystallising sorbitol, titanium dioxide (E171), black iron oxide (E172), and yellow iron oxide (E172).

Valused – indications for use

Valused is primarily a sedative and sleep-inducing medicine. Therefore, the indication for the use of this preparation is the occurrence of symptoms in states of tension and anxiety (e.g. feeling of heart palpitations) associated, among others, with with menopause, as well as in states of nervous exhaustion, hyperactivity and difficulty falling asleep.

Valused can also be used as an aid in many symptoms of vegetative neurosis, such as painful cramps in the stomach and intestines (intestinal colic) or painful contractions of the uterus due to nerves.

Valused – contraindications to use

Valused, despite its effectiveness in reducing the symptoms of tension or anxiety, cannot be used by every patient struggling with this type of ailments.

Contraindications to the use of Valused are:

  1. allergy to active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
  2. valerian intolerance; 
  3. rare hereditary fructose intolerance;
  4. known hypersensitivity to peanuts or soy;
  5. age of the patient – the drug should not be given to children under 12 years of age.

Valused – precautions

Before and during the use of Valused, follow the precautions, which are included in the package leaflet.

Precautions to keep in mind include:

  1. Talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse before using this medicine;
  2. some diseases and other circumstances may constitute a contraindication to use or an indication for a change in the dosage of the preparation. In some situations it may be necessary to carry out certain check-ups or a medical history with the patient;
  3. if the symptoms persist or worsen despite the use of the preparation, consult a doctor;
  4. the preparation is not indicated for acute use in the treatment of acute nervous tension;
  5. the preparation contains glucose, therefore people with malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use the preparation;
  6. the drug may impair psychomotor performance, reducing the ability to drive and use machines;
  7. the drug should be stored in the original packaging in order to protect from moisture, at a temperature not higher than 25 degrees;
  8. the drug should be kept out of the reach of children;
  9. the medicine should not be used after the expiry date which is stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month;
  10. this medicine should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. It’s best to ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines you no longer use.

Valused – dosage and method of use

Always use Valused exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.

Valused capsules are for oral use. Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age can accept 2 capsules 2 to 3 times a day. If a patient has difficulty falling asleep, take 2 to 3 capsules once half an hour before going to bed. Talk to your doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse 2 weeks after starting Valused.

It is worth remembering that in the case of long-term intake of high doses of valerian root (about 20 grams of raw material per day, which corresponds to about 97 capsules), especially in people sensitive to valerian, symptoms of overdose may occur. Overdose of Valused symptoms include fatigue, lower abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing and abnormal heart rhythm, dizziness, trembling hands and dilatation of the pupils of the eyes.

Valused – side effects

Using Valused as with any other medicine may cause side effects in patients. It is important to report any suspected adverse reactions after authorization of the medicinal product so that the benefit / risk balance of the medicinal product can be monitored.

The frequency classification of adverse body reactions (ADRs) is based on the following principles: very common (≥1 / 10), common (≥1 / 100 to <1/10), uncommon (≥1 / 1 to <000/1), rare (≥ 100 / 1 to <10 / 000), very rare (<1 / 1), not known (cannot be estimated from the available data).

With Valused, gastrointestinal disturbances have been reported so far in people who do not tolerate valerian root. In individual cases, however, there was nausea and increased heart rate (tachycardia) after the administration of passion flower.

Valused – interactions with other medications and alcohol

Before starting treatment with Valused, please inform your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking or have taken recently. You should also inform what medications the patient plans to take in the near future.

First of all, it should be remembered that Valused should not be used with other sedative medicines as it may increase the effects of the medicine. In addition, alcohol should not be consumed while using this preparation due to the risk of increased sedation, i.e. sedation.

Valused a pregnancy and breastfeeding

The use of any medications or dietary supplements during pregnancy requires consultation with the attending physician. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Valused.

Valused is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to the lack of data on the safety of valerian, hops and passion flower extracts.
