Head of the Dutch Council for Drug Assessment (CBG) prof. Ton de Boer says what we eat and drink every day is much more dangerous than the COVID-19 vaccine. The scientist also dispels myths that vaccination harms pregnant women.

Professor Ton de Boer, along with Health Minister Hugo de Jonge, is the most spoken person on the COVID-19 pandemic in the Dutch media.

“Suddenly I became a celebrity” – laughs prof. De Boer, who gave an extensive interview that you can read in the weekend issue of Algemeen Dagblad.

Social media convinced him to be more active in the media. “The amount of untrue information about vaccines and the coronavirus is turning the hair on its head. I don’t know, worse, human ignorance or belief in conspiracy theories“- says the professor.

“I guess I’m a little boring because I’m only talking about things I know, otherwise I’m keeping my mouth shut,” says De Boer, who heads the vaccine evaluation team.

The professor emphasizes that trust in vaccines is extremely important. “We take information about side effects seriously, but we must not forget that this is an absolute margin,” says De Boer.

The head of CBG argues that the approved vaccines are safe and are not “experimenting on humans”.

“This nonsense about experimenting annoys me, of course there is continuous research going on, but it’s a good thing, it does check how long vaccines will be effective, or protect against other variants,” explains the professor.

He is most irritated by the information that vaccines are dangerous to pregnant women. “There is no evidence of that,” says De Boer.
