Vaccinations in Poland – obligatory and recommended

Vaccinations is a topic that probably interests every parent. In Poland, vaccinations are divided into mandatory and recommended. The former protect against the most dangerous infectious diseases and are free of charge. Vaccinations are recommended for paid and provide additional protection against diseases caused by very dangerous and dangerous viruses and bacteria. The decisions about vaccinations are made by the parents. What are they guided by when choosing them?

Do Poles vaccinate children?

The available statistics show that Polish parents in 95 percent. vaccinate their children with compulsory vaccinations, but as far as recommended vaccinations are concerned, not less than half of the parents decide.

Among the recommended vaccinations, we have vaccines for 7 diseases – 5 viral diseases and 2 bacterial ones. It is bacterial diseases that are the most dangerous – they can result in sepsis and death of a child. We are talking about meningococci and pneumococci. The only protection against them is the vaccine.

Do you know how dangerous sepsis can be?

Pneumococcal vaccine

Pneumococcal disease is much more common in children than meningococcus. But course of meningococcal sepsis it is definitely faster and more spectacular. Pneumococcal bacteria live on the baby’s mucosa. The infection process is based on contact with saliva. The more children who are carriers of pneumococcus, the more likely they are to become infected.

When it comes to decrease in immunity in a child, pneumococcus takes advantage of the situation by destroying the epithelium of the respiratory tract. Then the child begins to get sick – with otitis, bronchitis, mild pneumonia. At the doctor’s office, the child is given an antibiotic and the child’s health returns to normal.

The problem arises when the child’s immunity drops much more. Then the pneumococcus wreaks havoc in the child’s body. It not only destroys the epithelium of the respiratory tract, but also goes through the mucosa and submucosa into the blood. Serious infections occur at this stage. By infecting the blood, it can lead to sepsis, meningitis, and severe pneumonia. Vaccinating your child will protect them against severe forms of infection.

What is the point of vaccinations?

The more children vaccinated, the less pneumococcal will be in the overall population. As a result – the carrier of common, dangerous diseases will decrease.

We vaccinate children as young as possible, especially infants and, if we did not manage to do it, children up to 5 years of age. The younger the child is, the more doses of the vaccine he will receive because his immune system is still immature and he needs to be trained to protect against this bacterium. An undesirable post-vaccination reaction can be associated with this vaccine redness, swelling at the injection site, fever and restlessness. We must remember that vaccination is a protection against diseases that once caused the extinction of mankind.
