Vaccinations against COVID-19 have been going on in Poland for almost four months. So far, over 7 million people have received the first dose, and over 2,4 million are fully vaccinated. Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland – how are we doing?

Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland started on December 27, 2020. The first person vaccinated in our country was the head nurse of the hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw, Alicja Jakubowska. It would be four months from then on. During this time, over 9,4 million vaccinations were performed, the first dose was taken by over 7 million people, and over 2,4 million are fully vaccinated. The situation is illustrated in detail by the charts below.

First, people from the so-called the zero group (i.e. the most vulnerable to coronavirus infection) – health care workers, residents of social welfare homes, employees of social welfare centers. On January 25, vaccinations of people eligible for stage one began, including seniors over 60 years of age, the chronically ill, and home hospice patients. These were the beginnings. Today we know that from May 9, all adult Poles will have already issued e-referrals – this was announced a few days ago by the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister and the government plenipotentiary for the National Immunization Program, Michał Dworczyk. – Until May 10, all adult Poles will have e-referrals issued and will be able to register for vaccination against COVID-19 – he said on April 19.

Summing up the first three months of vaccination against COVID-19 in Poland, Michał Dworczyk emphasized that the goal of vaccinating the society of 6 million doses has been achieved. He also pointed out that from December 27, when the vaccinations process began, the program was accelerated each week so as to reach the target speed of 10 million vaccinations per month in the second quarter.

Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland – how do we compare with the European Union?

Statistics show that vaccination against COVID-19 in Poland is actually going faster. Nevertheless, in terms of the number of doses of the vaccine administered per 100 inhabitants, we are in the second ten of the EU countries. According to Our World in Data data, we are in 27st place among the 21 EU countries (as of April 20 – the latest data).

Let us remind you that after the first month of vaccination (January 27) we were in the 11th place, after two months (February 27) – fifth, but as of March 27 it was already the 14th place.

There are currently 100 doses of the vaccine per 24,34 inhabitants of our country. What is the situation of other countries in this respect? Let’s see the top three of this ranking.

In Malta, there are 100 doses of the vaccine per 64,06 people, in Hungary – 49,57, in Lithuania – 29,24. Details are presented in the chart below.

Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland – how do we compare with our neighbors?

Taking into account the same criterion, i.e. the number of doses of the vaccine per 100 people and the situation among our neighbors, we are in the middle of the pack (in eight countries, we are fourth).

The inhabitants of Lithuania received the most doses – per 100 inhabitants there are 29,24 doses, the second country is Germany – 27,37 doses, the third place is taken by Slovakia – 24,34 doses. Details in the chart below.

Finally, there is one more criterion worth mentioning – the number of people who received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Here, Poland is doing quite well (as of April 20 it was 6,87 million people). Out of 27 European Union countries, we are fifth, after Germany (17,29 million), France, Italy and Spain. Details below.

As for the percentage of the population fully vaccinated against COVID-19, in Poland it is approx. 6,2%. At the moment, Polish patients receive two-dose COVID-19 preparations produced by Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, and a single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
