Europe is threatened by another wave of COVID-19. The continent meets three conditions in its favor. This includes Delta variant and “vaccine deficit” to protect against it. «This is unacceptable and far from the recommended 80%. vaccinating the adult population »- said Dr. Hans Kluge from WHO about the current situation. There is also much talk in Poland about the decline in interest in vaccines. How do we fare against the background of Europe and the EU countries? See the ranking.
- After the full course of vaccination, there are 29,1 percent. Europeans. Dr. Kluge from WHO: This is far from the recommended 80%. vaccinate the adult population
- In Poland, 36,7 percent are fully vaccinated. population

Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Poland. “The interest is slowly draining”
– Until recently, we had problems with vaccines, now we have a lot of them; the challenge now is to convince Poles to vaccinate, admitted recently the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, Michał Dworczyk. Health Minister Adam Niedzielski also referred to the decline in interest in vaccinations: – We are all aware that the interest in vaccinations is slowly being exhausted – he admitted a few days ago.
Meanwhile, the struggle to obtain herd immunity (also known as population or collective immunity) continues both in Poland and in Europe. Recall that the more people vaccinated, the more we are all protected. Moreover, thanks to herd immunity, vaccination protects not only the person who took the preparation, but also the weakest, who, due to various contraindications, cannot be vaccinated.
- Which vaccines protect against the Delta variant? [WE CHECK]
Expert of the Supreme Medical Council, Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski emphasizes that the Delta variant hits the unvaccinated groups the most severely and explains: “Coronavirus (and many other viruses) acts as a >> blind sniper << which mutates and fires blindly in longer bursts. Vaccines work like bulletproof vests. They save lives. In countries with high vaccination rates, 99 percent. people killed by Covid are unvaccinated »- he wrote on Twitter.
It is estimated that in the case of COVID-19, population immunity should work if 60 – 80 percent. the population will become immune. Meanwhile, in Poland so far at least the first dose has been taken by 45,2 percent. of the population, 36,7% are fully vaccinated. (as of July 4). How do we compare with other EU countries?

Vaccinations against COVID-19 in Europe. Where is Poland located?
In terms of the number of fully vaccinated people, Poland ranks 10th out of 27 European Union countries. This is not a bad result, but given the vaccine coverage for herd immunity, we must do everything we can to vaccinate as many people as possible.

Taking into account the percentage of Europeans who complete the vaccination course, it turns out to be only 29,1%. In the first half of June, the director of the World Health Organization for Europe, Dr. Hans Kluge, warned that the number of vaccinations against COVID-19 in Europe would not be enough to prevent a recurrence of the pandemic. On July 1, during a press conference in Copenhagen, he commented on vaccination coverage in Europe with strong words: – This is unacceptable and far from the recommended 80%. vaccinate the adult population.
“The three conditions for a new wave of excessive hospitalizations and deaths before the fall are met,” Dr. Kluge said at the conference. These are: new variants of the coronavirus, a deficit in the intake of COVID-19 vaccines and increased social mobility. If precautions are not taken, a new COVID-19 wave in Europe is possible in the fall.
- Expert: the body of an unvaccinated person is “a factory of new COVID-19 variants”
As we read on the website of the United Nations Regional Information Center for Western Europe (UNRIC), the number of cases in Europe increased by 10 percent. (the holiday period, related travel and greater mobility in general as well as the crowding of people and the alleviation of social constraints contributed to this). ‘This shows that the pandemic is not going to end and it would be a mistake if anyone – citizens and policy makers – assumed it did, warns Dr Kluge.
On the other hand, there is information that the vaccination pace in the EU is accelerating. As The Economist notes, Europe is already vaccinating twice as fast as America.
