Scientific advisers of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) unanimously recommended on Saturday that children under 5 years old should be vaccinated against COVID-19. Thus, all Americans are eligible to receive such a vaccine, except for infants under 6 months of age, the Polish Press Agency reported.

According to the New York Times, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle P. Walensky is expected to approve the decision quickly. Vaccinations will probably start on Tuesday.

Moderna will be available for children from 6 months to 5 years of age. However, the Pfizer vaccine – for children from 6 months to 4 years. The latter has been approved for ages XNUMX and over since November last year.

“During the two-day meeting, the advisers of the Public Health Committee listened to evidence confirming the effectiveness of vaccines in the youngest children. However, the committee repeatedly pressed Pfizer to submit its data and noted that three doses of the vaccine would be needed to protect children, compared to two Moderna, the New York daily reported.

Experts consider vaccines safe for children

According to experts, both vaccines are safe for children. They produce levels of antibodies similar to those seen in young adults.

Earlier this week, vaccines for children were endorsed by a team of experts advising the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). He accepted them unanimously.

Based on a recommendation, the FDA has authorized two doses of Moderna vaccine four weeks apart. The Pfizer vaccine also elicited a strong immune response, but only after three doses.
