Uterine prolapse is defined as the depletion of the reproductive organs. The reason is the stretching of the vaginal, pelvic and anal muscles. It most often occurs after childbirth, but also affects menopausal women. Not only can the reproductive organs fall out, it is possible that the bladder may collapse.

Uterine prolapse – causes and who may be involved in prolapse of the uterus?

  1. WOMEN IN THE MENOPAUSE – in this group of women, the prolapse or reduction of the uterus is caused by a deficiency of hormones (their absence reduces the firmness and elasticity of the tissues – the structures of the pelvic floor are weakened). With each decade of life, the incidence of uterine prolapse doubles in this group.
  2. WOMEN WHO BORN – pregnancy and childbirth lead to the weakening of the vagina and its support (additionally, the high birth weight of newborns over 4 kg may also contribute to this).
  3. WOMEN WHO PERFORM PHYSICAL WORK RELATED TO LIFTING – while lifting, the pressure on the pelvic organs increases. When a woman works under such conditions for most of her life, the apparatus supporting the pelvic organs will become weaker and, consequently, lead to the lowering or prolapse of the uterus.
  4. WOMEN WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM DISEASES INCREASING ABDOMINAL PRESSURE – these diseases (e.g. chronic cough, chronic constipation) increase the pressure on the reproductive organs and weaken the structures supporting them, and consequently cause prolapse of the uterus.
  5. WOMEN WHO ARE SUFFERING FROM OBESITY – Obesity and overweight also contribute to the weakening of the pelvic apparatus, or uterine prolapse, as pressure is constantly exerted on these parts of the female body.

Uterine prolapse can also be genetically inherited.

In summary, the causes of uterine prolapse are:

  1. hard childbirth,
  2. several births,
  3. having a big baby (weight over four kilograms),
  4. congenital disorders of collagen metabolism,
  5. estrogen deficiency during menopause,
  6. hard work,
  7. practicing an exercise sport discipline (e.g. weightlifting),
  8. chronic constipation.

One way to reduce the risk of uterine prolapse is to do pelvic floor exercises regularly. For this purpose, you can use geisha balls:

  1. Teneo Uno geisha balls – an improved version;
  2. Teneo Duo geisha balls – an improved version;
  3. progressive Ami Je Joue geisha balls of various sizes and shapes;
  4. kulki gejszy Pretty Love Kegel Tighten Up III;
  5. Luna – replaceable Lelo geisha balls (set of 4).

Uterine prolapse – symptoms

Uterine prolapse is associated with great discomfort and ailments such as:

  1. feeling of fullness in the crotch,
  2. feeling of pressure and heaviness,
  3. we observe “something” coming out of the vagina,
  4. urge to urinate
  5. abnormal urine stream
  6. urinary incontinence
  7. much higher frequency of urination,
  8. feeling of incomplete bowel movements,
  9. incontinence of gases, stool,
  10. the need for strong pressure on the stool,
  11. painful or impossible sexual intercourse,
  12. pain in the lower abdomen and back in the lumbar region.

Uterine prolapse – treatment

Uterine prolapse is a disease that requires specialized treatment. This disease cannot be ignored as it can lead to unpleasant health consequences. Pessaries are sometimes used to treat early uterine prolapse. Medonet Market offers ankle and maternity pessaries tailored to your needs. For example, try Calmon’s silicone ring pessar, which you will find in various sizes.

The last stage of the disease, i.e. the uterine prolapse and protrusion to the outside, is subject to surgical treatment, which does not threaten the woman’s health. If left untreated, infections as well as urinary tract infections may occur. Surgery is not necessary in the early stages of the disease. The operation of complete removal of the uterus or the so-called vaginal closure is performed in the case of elderly patients. Surgical treatment eliminates the symptoms of the disease and allows the woman to function properly.

Uterine prolapse – prophylaxis

After diagnosing the reduction of the reproductive organs (uterine prolapse), it is necessary to change habits and implement prophylaxis. Avoid carrying heavy objects. If you are constipated or have trouble urinating, see a specialist. The same is true if pain in the lower back occurs. Mature women may receive special creams or globules from the gynecologist that contain estrogen. They are designed to balance the hormonal balance and strengthen the tissues supporting the reproductive organs.
