Books that touch on the topic of mental illness are frightening and exciting at the same time, because we know very little about what it is — madness. Norwegian Arnhild Lauveng is a former patient in psychiatric hospitals. A very young girl hospitalized with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, she has been living a normal life for more than 10 years. She managed not only to overcome the disease, which is considered incurable, but also to become a practicing clinical psychologist. Lauveng continues to share her unique experience — her first book, Tomorrow I Was Always a Lion (Bahrakh-M), appeared in Russian two years ago. The new book makes you think about the unknown resources of the human psyche. And perhaps the most amazing thing in her book is how she, having experienced so much pain and horror, can be grateful. Arnhild’s experience opens up the world from a side unfamiliar to many of us, but allows you to rethink a lot in your own life.
