Useful properties of polyester
The developing chemical technologies are a qualitative breakthrough in all spheres of human activity. Light industry is no exception. These are new types of fabrics that combine the best characteristics. For example, polyester. What are the properties of polyester and what is it made and sewn from?
Material properties polyester
Polyester is a fabric made from polyester (synthetic) fibers. The basis for their creation is oil. Due to its perfect chemical formula, the material has a number of excellent quality characteristics. As a rule, different percentages of polyester fibers are used in fabrics for different purposes. The most popular combinations are with cotton or wool. Classic composition: wool – 55% and polyester – 45%.
Positive properties of polyester fabric:
- has high wear resistance;
- pleasant to the touch;
- keeps its shape perfectly (does not wrinkle, does not stretch, does not shrink);
- resistant to fading from sunlight;
- Easily erased;
- does not fade;
- quickly dries;
- resistant to pilling.
In addition to all the listed advantages, polyester is not afraid of the effects of various weather factors: intense sun, severe frost and precipitation. Therefore, clothes made from it are quite wear-resistant. In addition, it is a light, thin fabric that is almost airy. Tulle, voile and organza are good examples of 100% polyester.
The material also has some drawbacks. For example, it is easily electrified and not breathable enough. But imperfections disappear when polyester fibers are combined with natural ones (cotton and wool).
The excellent qualities that polyester fiber possesses makes it indispensable in the production of various fabrics.
Absolutely everything is sewn from the material in which it is contained: from underwear to outerwear. The fabric is widely used for the manufacture of curtains, draperies for windows. It is also irreplaceable in the production of surgical suture material, padding polyester for furniture, pillows and blankets. High wear resistance allows you to sew bags and backpacks from it.
Undoubtedly, in the near future, the development of chemical technologies will make it possible to further improve the properties of this fabric. And also – to reduce the cost of its production, which will lead to an increase in demand for polyester.
