Useful indoor plants will help you fight your computer

As scientists from the University of Pennsylvania have found, plants can absorb harmful ozone released during the operation of printers and damaging human cells.

Researchers have shown that three common houseplants – Sansevieria trifasciata, Chlorophytum comosum, and Scindapsus (Epipremnum aureum) – absorb ozone molecules. This gas not only protects the inhabitants of the Earth from ultraviolet radiation, but also causes serious damage to cells.

The essence of the experiment was as follows: air with an increased ozone content was pumped into the chambers where the plants were located, as well as into the empty chambers. Since ozone is unstable, its concentration has decreased over time. But, as it turned out in the course of the study, in the chambers with plants, it took less time for the complete disintegration of the dangerous gas.

Scientists have worked with ozone concentrations that are considered extremely unfavorable for daily activities, but at the same time achievable in real conditions, so the scientific findings are of interest to all groups of the population.

This scientific work gives unequivocal conclusions: cacti in front of a monitor are useless to protect against radiation, but indoor flowers near printers may well improve the air in offices. In addition, the plants are clearly very pretty and create a homely atmosphere in the office.
