Urotrim is a drug in the form of tablets that is used in the prevention and treatment of acute urinary tract infections due to the presence of certain bacteria. Like any drug, it has some contraindications. It also has side effects. You can find out about all this by reading the Urotrimu leaflet.

Urotrim – indications

Urotrim is a medical device in the form of tablets that is used in urology. It has a bacteriostatic and anti-infective effect. Taking Urotrim is recommended in the case of:

  1. acute but uncomplicated urinary tract infections due to the presence of E. Coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae or Proteus mirabilis,
  2. prophylaxis in recurrent urinary tract infections.

Before starting treatment with Urotrim, a culture and an antibiogram should be made. However, with long-term use, it is recommended to perform morphological check-ups once a month.

The main component of Urotrim is its active substance, i.e. trimethoprim. The drug can be used at any age, but it cannot be given to children under 3 months of age.

Urotrim – dosage

Urotim tablets are intended for oral use. The exact dose and frequency of use is determined by the doctor, taking into account the individual characteristics and ailments of the patient.

Nevertheless, the manufacturer of Urotrim gives the basic dosage for people who do not suffer from additional diseases. In long-term and recurrent urinary tract infections:

  1. children from 6 to 12 years of age – 1-2 mg per kilogram body weight once a day, preferably in the evening,
  2. children over 12 years of age and adults – 1 tablet 100 mg Urotrim once a day, also in the evening,
  3. treatment lasts from 6 weeks to even several months.

When treating acute infections, Urotrim should be used as follows:

  1. children from 6 to 12 years of age – 3 mg per 1 kg of body weight, twice a day, morning and evening,
  2. children over 12 years of age and adults – 1-2 tablets of 100 mg Urotrim twice a day, also in the morning and evening,
  3. treatment lasts from 1 to 2 weeks.

Urotrim tablets should be washed down with a little liquid. They should not be sucked or chewed.

Urotrim – contraindications

You should not take Urotrim if:

  1. hypersensitivity to ingredients,
  2. megaloblastic anemia,
  3. liver and kidney problems,
  4. thrombocytopenia,
  5. granulocytopenii,
  6. severe kidney failure,
  7. taking anticoagulants, birth control pills, tolbutamide, procainamide, phenytoin, methotrexate, cyclosporin, barbiturates, digoxin, rifampicin,
  8. suspicions of pregnancy, pregnancy, breastfeeding.

Urotrim – side effects

Like all medicines, Urotrim also causes certain side effects when used. Belong to them:

  1. harmless rash and itching,
  2. digestive system disorders including abdominal pain, vomiting and nausea
  3. glossitis,
  4. hypersensitivity, also to light,
  5. fever,
  6. increase in blood levels of creatinine, urea, bilirubin and the level of transaminases.

Urotrim – price

Urotrim is available as tablets from pharmacies. However, it can only be obtained by prescription and is non-refundable. A package of Urotrim 100 mg 30 pcs costs about PLN 15, and Urotrim 200 mg 20 pcs costs about PLN 16. The replacement for Urotrim is Trimesan.
