Correct collection of urine for analysis

It is recommended to carry out the procedure for passing a urine test at the 12-14th week of pregnancy, if it passes without deviations. The time for the analysis is early in the morning, immediately after waking up. The kidneys work differently at night, making the urine more concentrated. This allows you to more accurately determine the presence of deviations.

Before taking the test, conduct a thorough toilet of the genitals. Collect a medium portion of urine in a clean container. To do this, it is better to use a special sterile container, which can be purchased at any pharmacy. Take it to the clinic no later than two hours after receiving it. This will make the results most unreliable. Prolonged standing leads to the destruction of many components of urine, foreign bacteria are added to it, which also distort the indicators.

On the eve of the test, experts do not recommend physically overstraining (otherwise protein may form in the urine), eating salty, sour, spicy, and also a lot of meat, drinking alcohol. All this is negatively distorted by the result.

If there are changes in the color and chemical composition of urine, this may indicate a malfunction or deviation in the functioning of the body, the presence of serious diseases that pose a threat to the future baby. The urine should ideally be light yellow and clear.

Dark, cloudy urine indicates that it contains an increased amount of:

  • salt
  • erythrocytes
  • leukocytes
  • pus

And this is the first sign of infection or chronic illness.

The changes in urine revealed during the first analysis are not yet a diagnosis, it must be confirmed or refuted, therefore the obstetrician-gynecologist prescribes an additional examination and repeated tests

Thanks to chemical laboratory research, the exact composition of the urine can be determined. It should contain glucose, protein, erythrocytes. Doctors also pay attention to the number of leukocytes and the level of acidity (Ph). If any deviations are found, the doctor prescribes an additional examination.

Any changes in the urine of pregnant women usually become companions of changes in other indicators. Therefore, doctors do a comprehensive urine test.

In addition to the previously listed parameters, urologists and obstetricians-gynecologists examine indicators such as:

  • color and clarity of urine
  • specific gravity
  • bilirubin
  • erythrocytes
  • epithelium
  • cylinders
