Sore throat, cough, fever – probably each of us can list the most common symptoms of coronavirus infection. We refer to loss of smell or taste less and less as symptoms of COVID-19. However, more and more is being said about symptoms related to the other sense. I am talking about sight.
- For several months now, the Omikron variant and its subsequent sub-variants have dominated the world, also in Poland
- The list of symptoms of infection is long, fortunately they are less bothersome than the previous variants
- What is worth paying attention to? Scientists and doctors have recently talked about eye problems

Omicron – further symptoms
For over two years of the pandemic, we have become accustomed to the fact that the most common symptoms of SARS-CoV-2 infection include, among others, cough, fever or sore throat. With the original variant, the smell and taste were also often lost. The Omikron variant, dominant in the world for several months, has no symptoms that clearly indicate it. The list of signs of infection is extensive and rarely affects the lower respiratory tract. Most of them are mild symptoms for which symptomatic treatment is sufficient.
From time to time, however, there are reports of a specific ailment that may indicate a progressive COVID-19 disease, and not, for example, a cold.
Omicron attacks the eyes
Scientists now pay attention to the eyes. A study published some time ago in the journal BMJ Open Ophthalmology found that patients complain of photophobia, eye pain and itchy eyes. The first of these complaints, hypersensitivity related to looking to light, not just sunlight, was the most frequently reported.
It turns out that photophobia is also being reported during the current wave of infections with Omicron’s BA.5 sub-variant, the most contagious of all.
She wrote about it on Twitter, among others British doctor Dr. Claire Taylor a few weeks ago. She and her son were infected with the BA.5 sub-variant. They both listed photophobia as a symptom.
Studies have shown that eye problems affect women as much as men. Photophobia was the most frequently reported eye-related condition, but eye pain was the most distressing one.
The symptoms also include conjunctivitis, but in the case of the current variant, it occurs much less frequently compared to the previous ones.
Omicron – the most common symptoms
The most common symptom of coronavirus infection today is a sore throat. It is estimated that more than half of people infected with Omicron experience it (in the case of the Delta mutation, it was just over 30%).
Have you been infected with COVID-19? Be sure to check your health. The Healing Blood Test Pack, available on Medonet Market, can help you with this. You can also make them at home.
Another dominant symptom of Omicron is moderate to intense headache, often accompanied by a feeling of pressure or stinging. This symptom can usually last for more than three days. The other two symptoms that are fairly common today are stuffy nose and dry cough. The latter symptom usually lasts the longest.
Other symptoms that indicate infection with Omikron are:
- weakness
- katar
- cough with phlegm
- hoarseness
- sneezing
- fatigue
- muscle aches
- dizziness
- fever
- body aches
- loss of appetite
- nausea
- diarrhea.
