1/ 8 Pain relief

Aspirin is an inhibitor of a compound that causes inflammatory reactions in the body. As a result, it has antipyretic and analgesic properties. This is its most common use. According to the WHO, it is one of the safest first-choice measures for minimizing the symptoms of the common cold.

2/ 8 Treatment of osteoporosis

The cause of osteoporosis is when the cells that break down bone tissue (called osteoclasts) are overactive. Recent studies also indicate that the decline in the number of bone-building cells (the so-called osteocytes) may also play an important role. Low doses of aspirin stimulate the activity of octeocytes while inhibiting osteoclasts. As a result, the bones become thicker and stronger. Aspirin can induce this process. Its beneficial effects have been proven, among others giving it to postmenopausal women. The experiment showed that in this group the risk of osteoporosis decreased significantly.

3/ 8 Anticoagulant effect

Aspirin also inhibits the compound in red blood cells that is responsible for their clumping, which in turn leads to the formation of clots. Thanks to this, it can be used in the prevention of strokes and heart attacks. Doctors emphasize, however, that it should not be taken “in advance” if we are not at risk of these diseases.

4/ 8 Help in the treatment of stomach ulcers

Although taking aspirin may promote stomach ulcers, it increases the sensitivity of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, responsible for gastric ulcers, to antibiotics. Patients who treat ulcers with antibiotics should therefore take small amounts of acetylsalicylic acid.

5/ 8 Protection against cancer

Low-dose aspirin reduces the risk of developing cancer, and if the disease is already present, the risk of metastasis. This is the result of an analysis of 51 studies involving over 77 patients. In colorectal cancer, the risk of metastasis was even halved. The data was published by the prestigious medical magazine “PLOS ONE”. They concerned the analysis of research results on breast and prostate cancer. In the case of these cancers, taking aspirin also reduced mortality by as much as 000-15%. Now scientists want to confirm the effect of aspirin on the effectiveness of therapy in other types of cancer.

6/ 8 Liver protection

Aspirin can prevent liver damage in people suffering from drug side effects, alcohol abuse, and obesity-related liver disease. This is because it reduces the inflammation caused by non-infectious agents that damage the liver.

7/ 8 Supports the treatment of mental illnesses

Scientists from the University of Utrecht (the Netherlands) have shown that the use of aspirin has a positive effect on the immune system, reducing inflammation in the brain (according to scientists, they play a large role in many mental disorders). Dutch research suggests that anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, given early in brain development, not only reduce the symptoms of the disease, but also prevent neurobiological disorders and psychosis.

8/ 8 Promote pregnancy

Researchers from the University of Utah and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (USA) argue that the daily intake of 81 mg of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) reduces the rates of systemic infection, and thus makes the uterine environment more friendly to the development of the embryo . The study included 1228 women aged 18-40 suffering from a systemic infection who had experienced an episode of miscarriage in the last 12 months. It was observed that female volunteers who took 81 mg of aspirin daily had a 17% greater chance of getting pregnant and 20 percent. a greater chance of staying pregnant until delivery compared to women who did not. So far, aspirin has been used only in women who are at least 12 weeks pregnant and have an increased risk of pre-eclampsia. Meanwhile, some researchers believe that aspirin should be taken by every woman who wants to get pregnant, as long as she is not allergic to this drug and does not suffer from gastric problems. However, opinions on this subject are divided, as many experts are concerned that acetylsalicylic acid may promote internal bleeding, which is a serious threat to the fetus.
