Unusual carpets: woolen and openwork

Thanks to the efforts of the German designer Mikaela Schleipen, it is now possible to walk through the forest, lie on the beach and plunge into a mountain river without leaving your home. It is enough to throw the required Floor to Heaven carpet on the floor.

Woolen carpets

Mikaela Schleipen admits that all her actions are directed by “sexual desire”. “It happened when I turned twenty. Unexpectedly for myself, I took up carpet weaving. Since then, I have been interested in flooring more than anything else, ”she says. For a long time, Schleipen was content with a supporting role – she worked for the Tai Ping Carpets company, until in 2003 she decided to embark on an independent voyage. Her ZEN carpet, imitating a Japanese rock garden, had the effect of an exploding bomb – the jury of international competitions in Europe and the United States unanimously gave it the highest marks. Inspired by success, Schleipen opened her own design bureau – since then her designs have been released under the Floor to Heaven brand. “The brand name should be taken literally,” says Michaela. “We strive to lift the carpet from the floor to heaven, to transform it from a simple fleecy bedding into a meaningful art object. Many of our works imitate nature. As a starting material, we take ordinary wool (New Zealand or Tibetan hand-made), cotton, linen, viscose and silk, we combine and process the threads (using tufting, special shearing and modern dyes), bringing the canvas as close as possible to the sample – withered foliage, coarse piece of wood, loose sand. Our other know-how is Carpets in the form of giant openwork napkins. A woolen pile is manually grown on a denim base, which forms a pattern that resembles fillet lace. The shape of such a carpet can be very different – from a classic rectangle to a fashionable skull. In fact, we are engaged in falsification, production of deceptions, if you like. But remorse does not torment us. On the contrary, the result is a hell of a lot for our customers, too. ”
